And we lose. The young Qb that Omaha cast off is actually playing pretty well. Got some growing to do, but not bad. Glad I picked him up off of wires.

Hosting our rivals DEN, who are quarterback-less but still have a stout defense and solid players on O. We didn't gameplan this one so our O will likely do much better than normal.

We got bailed out of an opening INT as DEN failed on a 4th and 1 and quickly went up 7, 4 punts later DEN got into our end but could only come away with 3. We had a drive going but got derailed by a holding call and DEN WR Warhurst continued to hurt us and DEN went up 3 just before the 2 minute warning.

DEN continued to pick up 3rd downs at an alarming rate and after missing a 50 yarder hit a 51 yarder to go up 6. We broke a 54 yard run ourselves and took a 1 point lead late in the 3rd. But early in the 4th Warhurst broke a catch and run from 50 yards out and DEN retook a 6 point lead. We opened up the offense ourselves and went back up 1 with 8 minutes left looking for a defensive stop. Mission accomplished with 6 minutes left needing to burn clock and hopefully add at least a FG but instead we went 3 and out and were fortunate to force our own 3 and out with the clock now inside of 3 minutes. However we couldn't get it done grounding it out and after a blocked punt (!!!) DEN took a 5 point lead after a failed 2 point conversion inside of 2 minutes. Nothing doing for us in the 2 minute drill...

Well that was as humbling loss...props to DEN for getting the W but it looks like we will need to find the time to gameplan from here on out.

If you take away the 54 yard run, we didn't do too well on the ground and the passing game was middling at best with just 1 YAC per catch and no compleitons of more than 19 yards while getting just 2 ypa on our short passes.
We held DEN to poor running gains (though they added some 10 yard gain late) and a 50% completion rate but with nearly 6 YAC per catch and converting 7/12 3rds in the air and no TOs they got it done.

We still feel good about getting the division and losing in the WC or divisional round as per the usual but this was a wakeup call for sure. Still healthy, so no complaints there...another divisional bottom-feeder in Tulsa up next.

GG Seattle

We pulled off a great come from behind win against a struggling Seattle team. I thought for sure that Irv Clements threw the game away with two second half interceptions which caused us to be down 17-7 going into the 4th quarter. Rookie Fred Vesneske started the comeback with an 80 yard touchdown run, and Irv Clements redeemed himself by putting together a nice drive to get the game winning score with 8 minutes left. The defense held strong and was able to close out the game. Our ground game was dominant, totaling 269 yards. Fred Vesneske and Norman Bay are making a great 1-2 punch.

This season has been great for us so far. We are sitting at 4-2, already exceeding our win total from last season. I'm sure that we will quickly be exposed as pretenders, but we've got young players proving themselves all over this roster.

Week 6 Honolulu at Denver

This game was a mismatch, 22-0 shutout on the road. Honolulu have been road warriors this season at 4-0. Albeit a combined 9-16 record for those teams(week 7 standings).

Another excellent game plan on defense. Kelvin Samuels was terrorized all day long, 27.2 QBR, 4 INTs, 3 sacks, 5 hurries. Jace Norgard came away with 3 INTs en route to Defensive Player of the Week.

Cooper Allen had a great game over 100 QBR and over 70% completion percentage again.

We had some injuries again. TE Tim Morris is hurt for an unknown amount of time with Turf Toe. It's been two weeks already, let's hope he can get back soon. But we also had a few players come back 100% healthy, so that's good.

Week 7 we had our bye. Los Angeles came through and defeated Las Vegas. Tucson won against El Paso. With that we're still 3rd in the division, HON, LVS, and TUC at the top of our division have allowed near the same amount of points on defense, but our offense stands out 40 points higher than the other two teams. Coincidentally our two loses are to Tucson and Las Vegas this season.

Honolulu is set up nice these next three weeks at home. 7-1 last season at home.

First up is El Paso. Somehow we've played them 4 years in a row now and we're not in the same division. We're 2-1 in that span. This game looks like a mismatch, El Paso has a strong running back on offense and a decent line, that's it. Their Offense doesn't scare me.
If we can get an early lead, they should abandon the run game, and it'll be game over at that point. Overall they look like a team with some huge holes, starting multiple FAIR rated players, their 3-3 record is lucky. I expect us to win.

After that two tough home games against Fargo and Los Angeles.

We got our ground game going against Kansas City and brought home the W.

Our stable of average WR's continues to fight each other for playing time. Looks like we are going to shift the focus a bit to the younger guys and see what they can do.

GG Pepe...
