After Last Season's Magical Bowl Run, GM Red Zone considered dealing this season's first rounder to get a pick in round 1 in 2061, since That is the only one missing now from the Fryday Trade. After a few discussions that didn't pan out, and after seeing the WR prospects they liked go early, OT Mason Dawkins became Honolulu's 2060 1st Round Pick.

GM Red Zone spoke shortly after the pick was made.
"With the kind of System we run, and even more importantly now with the switch to a Spread Offense, The Offensive Line is a key part of our success. We felt like there were only so many legitimate Starter Quality OTs and we decided to get one when the chance presented itself.
Mason has all the tools. We Gave him a little work at LT during the combine, since he has played mostly RT, and he responded well. We also feel like he could excel as a Guard. There is no rush so we will let him develop and see where he ends up. "

2.21
S - Charlie Ellis, Butler
6'0" 202 lbs.

After last season's 2nd round pick bombed, there was some hesitation here. The Coaches felt like a Defensive Back was needed and safety was the spot that they targeted.
Despite coming from a small college, The feeling was that Ellis was the best fit. The ability to defend the run, play special teams and provide strong zone coverage along with solid man coverage offset the lack of bump coverage and so-so hands. He played FS in College but may be tried at SS first.

Red Zone's comments
"He should be a contributor at SLB and on special teams Immediately. Whether he starts or not will depend on how rapidly he develops in Training Camp and preseason, but we're excited to have him here."

3.15
K Christopher Stevenson, Kansas
5'11" 185 lbs.
Not Interviewed

After last season's rookie kicker imploded, and veteran kicker George Kooiker retired, Red Zone was determined not to miss out on Stevenson. When no other candidate jumped out at him...the pick was made.

Red Zone's Comments
"This was a major need for us and we feel like we addressed that need with the best kicker in this draft. We are confident that Stevenson will be here for a long time."

3.19
WR - Rodney Lewis, Texas
5'11" 190 lbs.

Last Season's 3rd round pick, Tennessee WR Terry Garrison has been slow to develop so far. Lewis was one of a group of WRs that Red Zone felt could go anywhere between the mid 2nd and early 4th.

Red Zone's comments
"We liked the fact that he didn't have any glaring weakness to improve on. He checked all the boxes including the most important one, speed.
