1.8 Taylor Walker, T, 6-1, 307 lbs. Kentucky

Image

Walker generated a ton of late-season buzz, and he put an exclamation point on it by a dominating performance during the East-West shrine game. He illustrated his tremendous skill set as he was rock solid and pass protection and moved defenders in the ground game. Despite being (only) 6-1, Walker has a 6-5 wingspan and a rare combination of strenght, quickness and athleticism.

2.12 Melvin Gunn, QB, 6-1, 212 lbs. Eastern Kentucky

Image

In speaking with CFL sources before the draft, they indentified Gunn as a sleeper prospect who has really impressed them. Gunn has a strong arm that can make all the throws. He displays some good accuracy at times but needs to be more consistent. He has excellent mobility to make throws on the run and keep plays alive. According to one scout "he (Gunn) killed it during the interviews at the combine with his focus, competitiveness and team friendly attitude".

3.11 Arnie Burks, OLB, 6-1, 247 lbs. Air Force

Image

Burks was the emotional ringleader of a great Falcons defense where he lined up at several LB spots. He reads the action quickly and gets in position to make the play. Rare insticts and rarely out of position. Consistent and reliable but rarely made the game-changing play. Needs to continue to add upper body strenght. Could be moved inside because he might lack the range needed to play on the outside in the CFL.

4.10 Herb Wright, FB, 5-11, 225 lbs. Wagner

Image

Despite being undersized, Wright is an old-school fullback with explosive power to pave the way as an iso-lead blocker and enough speed and athletic ability to carve a niche as a versatile performer. Valuable pass protector with good hands and short-yardage running power to contribute when needed.

Need to bulk up and improve as a receiver out of the backfield.

5.9 Al Emmons, CB, 6-0, 202 lbs. Michigan

Image

Fast, rangy, tough, loquacious defensive back who was pushed to play safety to fill a need in his junior season, and offers intriguing versatility on the back end. Projects ideally as a safety in the pros, where his instincts, ballhawking and physicality will appeal to a wide range of teams.

Plays a bit out of control and will miss some tackles in the open field. Takes some bad angles. Leaks yards when he comes in high and has to grab and drag instead of driving through the ball carrier.

6.8 Winfred Horton, TE, 6-4, 255 lbs. Missouri

Image

Good size and strong enough to fend off the jam. Horton catches outside his frame and adjusts to the ball. Catches in a crowd and will shake off a hit and run through contact. He has a wide catching radius and presents a big target with a nose for the first down marker.

Privateers coaching staff will have their hands full: Horton is strong but he blocks with little technique and even lesser effort. During games he tends to lose focus and disappears for stretches.

7.12 Dave Winslett, WR, 5-11, 193 lbs. Arizona

Image

After a brilliant junior season, his stock dropped after he suffered a torn ACL in practice. Excellent route runner, adjusts to throws and has soft, reliable hands. Exhibits field awareness and is quarterback friendly. Quick and slippery after the catch. Mature, likeable and a intelligent team captain.

Lacks elite top-end speed. Not exceptionally explosive, nor is he a go-up-and-get-it guy. Injury history casts his future in doubt.
