[bd56d002]Albany Crows 2017: 10-6[/bd56d002]

Albany had 8 picks in this draft including 5 out of the 1st 50! You expect good things from that, and the Crows delivered. In 2017, the Crows were dead last in yards per carry allowed on defense and they decided to change to a 3-4 over the offseason. First selection was CB [player]Alex Torres[/player], a converted safety to looks to be a great corner and easily an upgrade for Albany. The other 1st round pick was TE [player]Calvin Starks[/player] a converted full back. Calvin is an excellent blocker and is not a liability as a receiving option either. Two holes filled quite well in the first round, but nothing to effect the 3-4 switch yet. RB [player]Jerome Farrell[/player] was a steal at the top of the 2nd round. Former rookie of the year, [player]Mario Atkins[/player] may need to prepare his resume as Jerome could take his job by the end of the season. LB [player]Austin Newton[/player] looks like the real deal, first round talent in the middle of the 2nd round. And then, LB [player]Dave Stone[/player] is very good against the run and is another starter out of this draft for the Crows. Four out of those five will be quality starters for the Crows this season and beyond with the other one stuck behind a guy who is 6 for 6 in rushing for 1,000 yards or more a season with a career average of 4.44 yards per carry.

[bd56d002]Grade: A+ ~ I don't like giving these out, but I can't see what the Crows could have done better with these picks as Dave Stone is very good against the run and is what this team needed to get better at and is the only doubt out of those first 5 picks.[/bd56d002]

[bd56d002]Detroit Vampires 2017: 10-6[/bd56d002]

Detroit had 7 picks this year, no 2nd rounder and an extra 6th. So, this grade falls almost all on [player]Joe Andrew[/player] 's shoulders. Joe will not get much action this year, but I think he can grow into the starting right tackle in a season or two and be pretty good at it. I feel he may be a touch too small to really nail down that left tackle spot.

[bd56d002]Grade: C ~ For Come back later, as no one from this draft will be asked to do nearly anything for the Vampires this year, but Joe Andrew looks like he could be a decent right tackle.[/bd56d002]

[bd56d002]Cleveland Flats 2017: 9-7[/bd56d002]

Cleveland had 10 picks in this draft, with an extra one in the 4th, 5th, and 6th rounds. First pick [player]Ethan Solari[/player] is a small, but above average cover corner with pretty good hands. [player]Riddick Conway[/player] is a nice young wide out that should become a solid 3rd receiver in the CFL. [player]Tyrone Preston[/player] is very smart and should be a solid backup center and could develop into a starter and not bad for a 4th round pick.

[bd56d002]Grade: B ~ Not bad, and actually pretty good.[/bd56d002]

[bd56d002]Chicago Hitmen 2017: 7-9[/bd56d002]

Chicago had all 7 of their own picks and no more. Chicago's defense last season did not appear to be Hitmen at all. They were 5th worst against the run in yards per carry allowed and not that great against the pass. They allowed only 57.3% of the passes against them to be completed (which was 3rd in the league), but allowed the 2nd most yards per completion behind Shreveport. Chicago knew that the center of their 3-4 defense needed to be upgraded for the whole thing to work right. DT [player]Freddie Hartley[/player] is the player they are looking for to help out that defense. It is a true wonder why he is still not signed as he is (would be) so important to this defense. T [player]Cris Angelo[/player] looks to be a good right tackle and could take that starting spot by the end of the year. [player]William Sanders[/player] and [player]Josh Kirk[/player] both look to be good options at center for the Hitmen in the future.

[bd56d002]Grade: WTF? ~ The Hitmen are last in the league right now in yards per carry allowed and the main reason is that someone is still unsigned.[/bd56d002]
