2.1 Tampa Bay selected - DT [player]Gabe Schwarzhaupt[/player]
Gene should be a solid player in their 4-3 defense. Team with a lot of needs and this fills one. Nothing spectacular, but should not dissapoint.

2.2 Texas selected - WR [player]Mack Brewington[/player]
Texas needed a wide out badly, and Mack will do the job. Another player that will not wow anyone, but perform in the range of average starting CFL wide out, and that is a big improvement for this team. Newly acquired [player]Luther Wylder[/player] was probably regretting getting traded to Texas, but it seems the Sun Devils are trying to prove to him that they want to give him some weapons.

2.3 Brooklyn selected - CB [player]Trent Carr[/player]
Carr could be better then a couple of corners taken in the first round. He should be a good all around corner and will not be a liability in the running game.

2.4 Oregon selected - CB [player]Wes McDaniel[/player]
This means first round pick S Harding will stay at safety. It is doubtful they picked Wes here to be just a nickel back and return man. Wes should be a decent corner but with really good hands. He is also going to be a pretty good punt and kickoff returner. His return skills will really make every interception he makes much more interesting.

2.5 Memphis selected - QB [player]T.J. Compton[/player]
Memphis needs to get someone ready for them before Hoffman retires. Compton is not that guy. T.J. had one good season as a Hokie and came out as a junior. He really cashed that in here. T.J. has had trouble throwing picks since high school, and that has not improved. There were better QB's on the board at this pick. So, even with this pick they still need to get someone who can be ready for them at QB before Hoffman retires.

2.6 Fargo selected - C [player]Aaron Small[/player]
While Small was an excellent player at Hastings, it will not translate to a good career in the CFL. He is not smart enough to be the center of a line, and he is not physical enough to really man down any position on the line. He looked stellar in college, but this will be another small college player that dominated lesser opponents that will get owned at this level.

2.7 Chicago selected - DT [player]Calvin Cooley[/player]
With Chicago's two picks so far, I would have them flipped DT in the first round and WR here. Hitmen fans will look back on this wondering what could have been if they selected DT [player]Mike Strong[/player] and WR [player]Rico Hodson[/player]. Not that Chicago did an awful job, it is just they could have done better, but I am sure the other teams in the Great Lakes don't mind one bit.

2.8 Anchorage selected - CB [player]Rufus Gallegos[/player]
This is Anchorage's first pick in this draft and they did well. Rufus will be a solid corner as long as he is not asked to play bump and run coverage. He has great hands and fills one of the few holes on the Wolfpack.

2.9 Oregon selected - DT [player]Toby Dehaven[/player]
The Ice have really had a solid draft so far. Oregon uses the 3-4 defense and NT [player]Gilbert Penman[/player] is nearing the end of his career. Toby is best suited work in a rotation on the D line. If the Ice do use a rotation, they will get to keep Gilbert fresh and should get the most out of both of these players. Toby will not be a threat to rush the quarterback, but he should be fairly solid against the run and clog the middle of the line like a nose tackle should. Oregon will need to get another nose tackle once Gilbert retires, because Toby will not be able to handle the load on his own, series after series.

2.10 Santa Cruz selected - T [player]Randal Gunn[/player]
The Privateers really needed a tackle to man the right side of the line, with solid young LT [player]Linwood Donaldson[/player] on the other side. Gunn is raw and is not that great in pass protection, but he is pretty stellar blocking forward for the run. RB [player]Tom Whalen[/player] will surely enjoy Randal's presence. Santa Cruz also has a big hole at MLB, but no one at this spot provides the same value as Gunn does at RT.

2.11 Honolulu selected - WR [player]Rico Hodson[/player]
The Blue Pacific really had a bunch of holes coming into this draft and have so far done a good job of getting the best value of each pick and not making any reaches for players. Rico should be a solid wide out at this level. Ideally, he would be the number two receiver, but Honolulu does not have a number one, so he will have to man that role for now.

2.12 Huntington Beach selected - T [player]Gene Prior[/player]
The Capitalists are desperate for some offensive line help, but Gene is not the answer. He had some drug charges dropped in college, but then got a DUI within a month of those charges being dropped. He skipped spring camp at Rutgers one year and sat for the first two games that season. He just is not talented enough to put up with his antics. He would probably top out as a good backup tackle if he had no problems. I think it will not be long before Gene is cut and out of the league.

2.13 Arizona selected - FB [player]Monty Warren[/player]
Arizona gets a very talented player in Warren. Monty should stay at the FB spot and be a staple in the Outlaws backfield for many years. A really polished player, he will be able to start and be good from day one.

2.14 Cleveland selected - QB [player]A.J. Jeffries[/player]
The Flats are trying to stock up on options for when [player]Lane Manuel[/player] eventually retires. Current backup [player]Jeremy Harden[/player] has not seen much of the field, but has always given the ball away too often and cannot tell where the double coverage is. A.J. also has those problems. Jeffries will not learn the playbook easily, but he does have a strong arm. He will not be a quality starter in this league.

2.15 Seattle selected - LB [player]J.R. Cotton[/player]
Cotton is a pass rush specialist that may fit Seattle's 3-4 defense as the rushing WLB. He will not be a decent LB in any other sense, but could make a name for himself in Seattle. Thing is, Cotton could have still been there in the 5th round.

2.16 Boston selected - OLB [player]Emmanuel Kurzeja[/player]
Boston needs help in many spots on the defensive side of the ball. Emmanuel should be decent at the SLB position. There were some more capable defenders still on the board here.

2.17 Detroit selected - DE [player]Frankie Redmond[/player]
And this is one of those more capable defenders. Frankie is versatile enough to play any position on the defensive line and do well. However, he is a little weak against the run when he is lined up on the ends. It will be interesting to see what the Vampires do with him, as they try to get the most out of him.

2.18 Santa Cruz selected - WR [player]Darrell McWilliams[/player]
Darrell is a very raw, but very talented player. He is raw for a reason though, he got kicked of the Colorado Buffaloes. He never saw the field his junior, and last year, in college. He was a no show at the start of fall practice and that was the last straw after a string of incidents during his time there. If someone can straighten this kid out, he can be a solid starting number 2 wide out. High risk, fairly high reward for a mid 2nd round pick.

2.19 Charleston selected - TE [player]Benjamin Ephraim[/player]
Benjamin is the first TE selected in this draft and deserved that honor. Excellent blocker and he also runs very crisp routes. The only knock on him is that he does not have good hands. If he can hang on to those passes, then he will be considered an excellent value here.

2.20 El Paso selected - DT [player]Nicky Hernandez[/player]
Nicky is a 4-3 tackle, he cannot be the only guy in the middle. He seems to be a decent player at the position, but probably no better then [player]Billy Joe Copeland[/player] which they already have on their roster. A lot of GM's will say they try to draft the best player available and not reach for needs. This was not a need pick by the Rockets. However, this was also not the best player on the board at this spot.

Great job! I would love to see it through the third round, but I know that is asking for too much. :)

2.21 Durham selected - OLB [player]Jim Bruce[/player]
Jim was a standout at Wisconsin were he took advantage of being part of a good defensive scheme. He will not be a quality player in the CFL. He projects to be a career backup without much of a career.

2.22 Hartford selected - QB [player]Irv Finley[/player]
Drafted in the 6th round last year, Irv gets picked in the 2nd this year. That should tell you enough.

2.23 Denver selected - WR [player]Stephen Murray[/player]
Stephen looks like a solid number 2 wide receiver. He does not like to go across the middle, but everything else about his game is better then average.

2.24 San Antonio selected - G [player]Levon Thames[/player]
Levon comes in to be a backup guard and that is what he would be best at here in the CFL. He seems to be pretty good in pass protection, but he will be a liability in the running game.

2.25 Durham selected - WR [player]Victor Wheaton[/player]
This Trojan is very raw but projects to be a very good CFL talent. Durham's two best receivers both have over 10 years experience and they cannot be expected to stay in the league for too much longer. This allows Victor a season, maybe two, where he can be the 3rd or 4th receiver while learning the system and learning how to play against professional talent.

2.26 Cleveland selected - RB [player]Ernie Maloney[/player]
Ernie is a talented running back that is not a threat in the passing game. He will team up with [player]Marcus Davis[/player] who is also not a threat in the passing game. Neither of these running backs are a threat to burst around the corner and take it to the house when they get the ball. However, they both are the type of solid backs who can pound it between the tackles. Thing is, they are so similar and I do not think Ernie is much of an improvement over Marcus.

2.27 Boise selected - ILB [player]Austin Wasserman[/player]
[player]Tim Atkins[/player] just got a $14 million signing bonus to come to Boise this year, so it is doubtful Austin will see much of the field this year at MLB. Austin will probably be the second option at MLB behind Tim this season. Austin projects to be very solid against the run. Scouts I have talked to differ on whether he will be a liability in pass coverage or not. The scout that was highest on his coverage ability said that he would be, at best, average for a CFL middle linebacker.

2.28 Atlantic City selected - ILB [player]Nate Hanks[/player]
Nate steps into a situation where it would be easy for him to become the starting MLB for the Phantoms. But, this Yellow Jacket is not smart enough to be the man in the middle of a 4-3 scheme. Hanks did not attend the combine and just does not have the skills to start at this level. Once again in the second round, we see a career backup player who doesn't look like he will have much of a career.

2.29 Albany selected - DE [player]Lester Rasmussen[/player]
After playing on the end at East Carolina, Lester seems to be better fit inside as a tackle in the CFL. Looking at what the Crows already have at defensive end, it appears that is what they had in mind. He has the physical ability to be able play well at tackle, only time will tell if he actually can.

2.30 Long Beach selected - T [player]Geoff Mason[/player]
Geoff is a senior out of Georgia who disappointed the Bulldogs season after season. The guy has the physical skills needed to play offensive tackle, but he just has not put it all together and has been very inconsistent in his play. Long Beach hopes they can coach him into becoming a premier left tackle. He may not be best suited for the left side, but Long Beach has a quality right tackle on their team that cannot make the shift to the left.

2.31 Baltimore selected - QB [player]Levon Iadevaia[/player]
I am sure you have heard of that other football league. Then, you have also probably heard of Ryan Leaf.

2.32 New Orleans selected - DE [player]Winfred Mahoney[/player]
This Arizona Wildcat had a stellar college career. Too bad it will not translate to the CFL. He has a defensive end's body, but an average defensive tackle's speed and agility. If he can gain weight and move to the inside, I could see him being a good backup tackle, but never starting quality even in a 4-3. If he can't, then he will ride out his rookie contract as a worst case scenario backup defensive end.

This brings us to the end of the second round. I am unsure if I will be able to cover any more rounds.

This has been an astounding feature, I can't imagine the amount of research it took.

Thanks a lot for doing this!

Again, very nice work.

McShay doesn't seem too high on Wasserman, but I'm pretty pleased he was still there at the end of the 2nd. I may look at moving him to SLB but for now plan to keep him inside.

On the contrary, I think he is decent value here at the end of the 2nd. He won't be asked to do much his rookie year because of Tim, which is not a bad thing. I project him as an average to maybe a little better then that at MLB since this league is a bit weak at the position. I do not believe he can make the move to OLB and still be a decent player.
