Fonz - I must remove the mantle previously bestowed upon you of "RIGHT" and replace it with a the glorious new mantle of "WRONG". Should you disagree with this ruling, you have every right to appeal it to the commissioner.

You do not suck. In fact, you're [i3eddc88]awesome[/i3eddc88]!

I've noticed that both of the somewhat mature leagues that switched from 2k4 to 2k7 that I'm in seem to have the same problem - many teams with just tons of cap to burn.. it's making FA very weird and hard to manage, especially with the 1 year contracts thrown into the mix...

I find myself offering guys WAY more than I think they're worth, but if I don't I won't get them and I'll have 15 mil in unused cap space.

+1,000

Even when I offered completely absurd contracts that were 5 times what a sane person would offer, it wasn't good enough (not enough bonus I guess) or was outbid by someone else in the same predicament.

I agree with this. My personal opinion is that it has to do with players' careers being shortened. Players that play in positions other than QB, K, and P rarely make it past their 14th season in the league before retiring. In 2004, you'd see players make it to their 16th and 17th year. Since careers are shortened, that means that there are less players available in free agency, in turn escalating their values. Also since the players that would have stayed 16 and 17 years would be good players getting decent contracts, you now see more cap space available.

The other thing that happens is that a 12 year player is the new 14 year player. You know you can get 1 season out of the guy, probably 2, but there's really no chance of getting a 3rd year out of him. He'll either be dead (rating drops too low to want to resign) or retired.

When we first converted to 2007, we had a rash of retirements which created this void in talent and now we're overpaying for it - literally and figuratively.

Maybe we could look at reducing the salary cap increase for a few years. Adjust to the times???

I think the difference is because the league switched and all the things like RH said happened. I think in a few seasons it will catch back up without us having to change anything up in game.

I also think player ratings have changed.

Moreso now than ever, statistics tell you how good someone is and not there frontside numbers.

45-50 point players are now decent starters whereas they were marginal starters or good backups in FOF2004.

I think once we get a few seasons of 2007 behind us, player value, the talent pool, and cap space will find their equilibrium and we will be back on track.

Some of us have a lot of cap space left over from the mass retirements during conversion and those that dodged it then got hit this past offseason. It shouldn't take long for the old rosters to get cleared up and stocked with younger draftees and undrafted free agents. Once the new drop dead age is established and the rosters are purged, I think large cap gaps will shrink.

Perhaps owners offering more and more 1-year contracts than they used to offer has contributed to the increase in cap space. Next season all of the cap space is available again. But I agree with the other reasons given as well.

Do we know that there are in fact more 1-year offers happening? Before Barlow, I can't remember any big names getting snagged with a 1-year deal since Fulton's deal went down.

I also agree with what others have mentioned above - this will all even out in a few seasons.

I think we will see the cap come down hard on some teams here in the next few offseasons. Some may have spent too much not checking that next season or the one after will have a few contracts run out, player still on their rookie contract holdouts, escalating salaries of contracted players, and vets wanting big bonus bucks in renegotiations. Most owners can think of a vet that was on their team that has since retired that would be around a 10 mil cap hit this season and not offer much help via renegotiation. These days will end soon, and when you guys are up against the wall, I will make lowball offers for your vets that you must take or release the old fart.

P.S. I wonder if Vegas's 1st pick DE can play 2 LB spots and DE at the same time.

Buster Hall said he'll hold down the fort for another year so we can try Hutchinson on the outside.

I told him not to worry about the naysayers who need to be careful with what they do in their glass houses. I showed Mr. Hall the roster strengths and he laughed in Albany's general direction.

I got Burt Liszkiewicz on a one year deal. Not a whole lot was made of it, probably because he was heading to Cleveland.

After the CFL Bowl, we should start a thread where owners can post who they'd like to franchise. This will give them approximately a week to post in the thread, in case they miss the all important export. Taco can do a quick check before the sim is ran and make sure everyone was franchised.

Fulton, Barlow and Liszkiewicz were all supposed to be franchised but were cases of the owner missing the export. I think something like this would help with the problem.
