It's cool Taco, most of us can read. I am glad it's not RL problems that are driving your decision and strictly CFL-induced stress. Virtual stress is far easier to deal with and affect change on than the RL kind.

I'll restate that the bad news has me excited because of the reasons you want to step down - recover from being burnt out, spend more time as a GM, be more active on the web site. These are all positives for the CFL and we have plenty of quality people around here to follow the example you have established for the position. I just hope it's one of those that can read.

Since not many volunteers have stepped up yet, something to consider which is done in some other leagues and could possibly be an option here too is to have multiple simmers.

I know for sure this is the case in FOFL, and maybe some other leagues too. I'm not quite sure how it works, can somebody explain? (I believe the Fonz is in FOFL, no?)

It probably helps lower the burnout that all commishs feel rightfully after a while...

I don't mind running the sims... it actually fits perfectly in my schedule (minus that not-so-great Sunday morning sim). I just don't have the time for the other things that go along with the role. In other words... I'm willing to take over running the sims, but that is about all I can handle right now. I'm sure the commish responsibilities can be divided up between several members - one simmer, one moderator, one web and design master, for example. No need for one man to do it all.

As far as splitting up the commish roles I could help in some areas. I simply can't handle the sims, my schedule fluctuates so much I could never commit to a time schedule.

But really outside of running the sims there is not much the commish really has to do on a continued basis...

Moderate the forums (ie- delete the spam)
Run the sims
Handle the draft
When an issue arises with the rules, or a hole in the game make a decision.
Handle the website


There could be more, but those are the first things that come to mind.

I like the idea of having more of a council with the responsibilities split up a little. Like I always try to delete the spam when I see it.

And as far as handling decisions based on rules, and holes in the game we have a great group of owners that we don't have many issues pop up, and when we do there is normally a good discussion and it is handled more as a group than just one person.

I am willing to help in any way possible, outside of running the sims, and it depends on when the next draft is if I could help at all for that.

My impression from Taco's post (correct me if I'm wrong) is part of the reason for him stepping aside is to spend more time with the website...

So, that leads me to belive that the core role of a commish is going to be running the sims and then disputes (which happen more rarely these days)... Anyway, just something to think about...

I'm all for anyone that wants to help out, there's not anyone in the league that I wouldn't trust to do things if they step up and say they'll be available.

I like splitting up the responsibilities idea. It is less of a commitment for any one person. This opens it up to a larger group that can help and easier for alternate people to step in when schedules change.

You still need a designated commissioner to be the final say in settling disputes. As much as a group can get things accomplished, there still needs to be one person to finalize the findings or to split any ties. Taco did/does a great job of listening to the group and protecting the integrity of our constitution which at times has meant agreeing with the group's consensus yet applying the decision correctly as it related to the constitution, which is not always a popular or easy feat.

Other than that, ditto on the council idea.

I guess my question is this *stares at Taco*:

Could we keep Taco as our Commissioner figure-head and the one in charge of issues, with others filling out the other roles?

TLK can sim.
Doug can moderate.
MrBug can run the draft (I actually lol'd as I typed this).

I don't want to put Taco on the spot but I think one of his greatest attributes is handling the few issues we come across. As the CEO of Commish Corp, Taco could be the face of the group doing what he does best on a very infrequent basis (hopefully) while his COO minions handle operations (we could call them Taco's Bitches).

Yeah, they do split it up there. I believe they have one official "commish," who does some of the sims, and then one other simmer who does the rest. It seems to work pretty well, and that might be a good solution here, too.


I rather like the idea of a Taco/TLK commish/simmer combination, if Taco's up for it.

And for what it's worth, I would love to volunteer to help out with league administration, but like Doug my life right now prevents me from being able to commit to stable sim-times (well, at least to a sim-time that isn't 11:00pm). In my view one of the most important qualities of a good league is reliable sim times, so if I can't offer that I probably should stay on the sidelines at least until my life becomes a bit more routinized/less insane.

now . . . with regards to "that not-so-great Sunday morning sim" . . . if it doesn't fit your schedule, then let's change it. give us a time/day that would work out well for you and i would imagine that most of the league would be just fine with it.

and i love the idea of the split of tasks. as triple-F said, it may delay the inevitable burnout. this is the part where i am quite glad to be in a league where so many are veterans of MP leagues and have so much to bring to the table. thanks, fellas.

I would be willing to do that. The biggest thing for me is for someone else run to the sims.

Just wanted to second this. Don't feel like the days/times have to be adjusted to, if we need to change sim days/times i think that's fine. As long as it is a set schedule, it doesn't matter beyond that.

Starting this Friday (week 3) TLK will be running the sims. Thanks, TLK! As I said, feel free to adjust the schedule as necessary. For now I will continue to update the stats on the website after each game, but will work on an automated way for TLK to easily do it. Right now it involves several manual steps.

3ric, if you would set up the draft utility from now on that would be a big help! Thanks!

So I think that's a good start for delegating some of the commish responsibilities.
