With as much pomp and circumstance as is customary with the beleaguered Rounders' GM, TurfToe snubs the purists and critics yet again. Former first round pick, QB [player]Morris Moore[/player], joined TurfToe on stage to welcome the newest addition - Miami WR [player]Dwight Terrell[/player]. We're not sure what the point of having his 2016 draft pick join him on stage in last year's #1 jersey was but we're almost certain it was a specific message to someone about something. Either way, there was quite a bit of money on stage plastered in black and pink #1's as the bulbs flashed, fans cheered, and normal society rolled their collective eyes.

With youthful exuberance, the two college standouts high-fived each other at center stage and walked off pumping fists under the proud-papa gaze of the shirtless assclown.

Miami's Dwight Terrell can be summed up in two words - raw and talented. As the fastest and strongest WR in the 2017 draft class, Terrell wowed scouts with an amazing performance in the receiver drills. Pete Stevens and Cornell Jarvis looked like #2's when he was finished. His 4.40 speed, his class leading strength, and his top 3 agility will give all-pro corners fits in the next few years.

Ted who?

[edit]

Ted who is right. TurfToe & Co. storm back later in the first round to select what the Rounders believed to be the best player at another offensive position of need - RB. That's right, my sources tell me that the Rounders believe Tennessee's [player]Phil Vandersommen[/player] is the best RB in this draft class. While the knock on Ted Kingsbury's endurance seemed to be the deterrent for his selection by the club, Vandersommen's knock of not being able to catch the ball out of the backfield was an afterthought for TurfToe.

[img1423d9f]http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h145/ ... Vander.jpg[/img1423d9f]

"If I need someone to catch the football, I ask my receivers coaches to do their damn job. If I need someone to tote the rock, I give my backs coaches someone to work with. Kingsbury wasn't passed over by the Rounders, he simply wasn't at the top of our board. Vandersommen was the guy we wanted all along and hoped that our strategy to land him at 1.23 worked out. It did. We'll work with Phil to get his hands where they need to be but I need someone in black and pink who can run the ball. [player]Anthony Jennings[/player] has been rock solid for us but he has earned his chance to hang them up when he is ready. I actually leaned on Jennings quite a bit when meeting with our scouts. I asked for his opinion on several runners in this class and we watched a lot of tape together. I trust my scouts but I trust my players even more. Jennings will be the first to tell you it's the size of a player's heart that matters, not the size of his body. We plan to give Phil his chance to prove how big his heart is. I believe my track record shows I can accentuate our players' srengths. Many chided my handling of Jennings when we drafted him yet he will be a permanent fixture in the Hall once he retires. We plan to make the most out of Vandersommen's abilities, even if that means he is not the best well-rounded back to ever wear the CFL crest. If a runner that can find a cut back lane or make people miss with agility instead of size and power are regarded as scat backs, then I guess we got us one hell of a scat back."

[size=181423d9f]Las Vegas on the Defensive in Round #3[/size1423d9f]
With the draft growing old fast, TurfToe re-energized the room with an appearance at Tucson's 3.32 spot. In a deliberate attempt to force a defensive pick, TurfToe puzzled many with the selection of [player]Jose Weber[/player], an Illini linebacker. With the depth still available at the outside linebacker spot, only TurfToe can answer why this selection made sense.

"My scouts really fall in love with measurables at the combine, but there's a reason why they are scouts and I'm a GM. Yes, Weber is undersized for a linebacker but I'm not looking for a LB to use as a reference in a dictionary, I'm looking for football players. Jose is smart, strong, and has a passion for playing special teams. If that isn't what a LB is all about than I'm not sure what is. We're hoping Jose will push some of our younger starters at the position and make an impact in his first camp. If he can be the #1 backup at both Will and Sam than this was a great pick. If he supplants Dixon as a starter we have a great competitive situation on our hands and I'm a genius. We'll know more after camp."

[b1423d9f]4.32
FB - Benny Jimoh
Miami 6'0", 240 lbs.[/b1423d9f]

Jimoh brings both blocking and hands to the Vegas backfield. After a disappointing selection n the 2016 draft (Clay Small) Vegas hopes to rejuvenate the rnning game with the addition of Vandersommen who will be led by a very young set of fullbacks.

[img1423d9f]http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h145/ ... -Jimoh.jpg[/img1423d9f]

---------------------------------------

[b1423d9f]5.18
T - Jackie Kramer
Notre Dame 6'2", 288 lbs.[/b1423d9f]

Kramer will fill in behind two aging tackles in Curtis Blackburn and Victor Twisp. Kramer's smallish nature is countered with intelligent football play. Some consider this golden domer to be an overachiever but Vegas considers him a replacement for the yet-to-develop Austin Mino that struggled to catch on last year.

[img1423d9f]http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h145/ ... Kramer.jpg[/img1423d9f]

---------------------------------------

[b1423d9f]5.29
S - Luke Porter
Army 5'11", 196 lbs.[/b1423d9f]

Porter was a standout safety with Army. Unfortunately, football is not the primary focus of officers-to-be even if they attend Army on a football scholarship. Porter's strength and intelligence should equip him sufficiently to maintain a 53-man roster spot with the Rounders.

[img1423d9f]http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h145/ ... Porter.jpg[/img1423d9f]

---------------------------------------

[b1423d9f]5.32
G - Ralph Crawford
Maryland 6'5", 317 lbs.[/b1423d9f]

If intelligence doesn't help Kramer at tackle, maybe a guard that checks in at 6'5" and 317 lbs. might. Crawford is a large body that should open holes for Jennings and Vandersommen in the 2017 campaign. Others have suggested that Kramer and Crawford were drafted at each others' positions respectively. Time will tell but there's no reason a body this big doesn't get it done somewhere on a CFL offensive line.

---------------------------------------

[b1423d9f]7.22
CB - K.C. Sawyer
Vanderbuilt 5'11", 185 lbs.[/b1423d9f]

Sawyer finds himself in a good position for a rookie, especially one drafted in the 7th round. Vegas has a hole to fill at several cornerback spots. Sawyer's cover skills were evident at Vanderbuilt when he led the Commodores in interceptions each year of his college career. His lack of intelligence and agility hurt his rating among the 2017 CB class but his football sense, speed, and natural cover abilities make him a tremendous value in the final round of the draft. Depending on how camp goes for Sawyer, he may end up starting opposite [player]Gus Shergalis[/player] or as the primary nickle back on opening day.

Excellent pick TT, Welker was my first round target all along. (didn't think he'd fall to me though, and I was right)
