Pick 1.17: WR Daryl Perkins - The Inferno chose well to fill their need for a solid receiver who can stretch the field. Perkins is a monster receiver with speed. The Inferno desperately needed a big wideout to team with Rusty Moore, and getting this guy at #17 is outstanding value. Best measurables of any WR in the draft, but still raw and developing. He will need work on the "tricks of the trade" to get off the line and to get open in zones, but he should be a terror in the red zone from day one. Had a strong mini-camp where he made highlight reel catches. There may have been better picks in the draft at this point but none were such a good fit for the Inferno.

What Texas Had to Say: "He's clean, he hasn't been hurt, he's got good speed, he's fast, he is a size and speed athlete. This player has an upside, he is untapped. Hopefully we can get it out of him. He is going to come here with a strong personality and he'll play well."

Pick 1.26: G Lester Acevedo - The general feeling was that Acevedo was a reach at #26, and this could quite possibly be true, but put into the context of this draft the Inferno certainly did the smart thing. He was the top rated Guard in the draft, the choice was either move or miss out. Very strong and although he lacks ideal bulk for a CFL guard, he has the frame to comfortably add weight and could eventually be a pro-bowler. Tough, smart, aggressive, and durable. Twice team captain at Rutgers, he's a great athlete and has good awareness. Impressive at the Senior Bowl and at the Combine.

What Texas Had to Say: "Lester has good size potential with long arms. He is a decent athlete who can get out on the second level. He's great both as a pass blocker and run blocker. Intelligent and hard working and will be a great fit."

Pick 1.30: FB Renaldo Kastilahn - Kastilahn was one heck of a college fullback. His game translates nice to the CFL, as he has elusive speed, can run with the ball in his hands, and of course delivers big-time hits as a lead blocker. The Inferno were very lucky that Kastilahn was still around at #30. After Kastilahn there was a huge fall off in talent at the FB position. He is raw power and a lot of teams were very high on him. An impressive physical specimen with the frame to get bigger. A great upside. Needs to work on his routes. There's a good chance Kastilahn becomes a Texas legend at fullback.

What Texas Had to Say: "We wanted this guy so bad and we had him singled out very early in the draft. Originally we didn't think we would've been able to get him this late in the round but once we got Lester Acevedo he became more important to us. Patience has helped us this year, not only have we had the right picks, but the right players have been there at the right time."

Pick 1.32: C Ellis Boyer - Boyer graded out as the top center in this draft and adding depth on the offensive line is always a good plan. Very smart, tough, hard-working, aggressive, and competitive. Has a mean streak, plays with an attitude and never stops working. Had a phenomenal combine. He played at all positions on the offensive line in his time at Colorado and the Inferno are hoping he has all the skills required to move to guard or tackle. Boyer should be more than capable of playing there.

What Texas Had to Say: "We got a guy that is a quality player. To be perfectly honest, we're surprised this guy went unnoticed, he's a potential stud. He's strong, can block, we think this guy can continue to get better and better. Our perfect case scenario is that he's a guy that comes in and learns what we're doing and can contribute right away. Ellis has shown great versatility and we're hoping he can come in and make a big impact."

With their final two picks the Texas Inferno selected CB Cory Linquist and QB Horace Sherman, 2 guys not expected to make a big impact in the upcoming season but who will be given the chance to learn the Inferno's system, prove their worth and hopefully provide solid depth at a couple of key positions.

Overall: The Texas Inferno didn't try and do anything flashy in this draft, they just went out and addressed some key needs, both now and for the future too. With 4 picks in the top 32 they got some great value and came away with a solid looking set of rookies that will be the next step forward for a team that finished off 8-8 last year.

I really liked that CB you got in the 6th round. I have a feeling he is going to turn into a special teams stud and a good enough CB to hold his own on the field.
