Things in Las Vegas have been different these last few years. Following a world championship it seems as though TurfToe has been more introverted and serious about the product he has been putting on the field. Likewise, the fans have been expecting a more consistent effort with football as their top priority and not just entertainment. One of the first signs of change this past off-season was the dismissal of Coach Hobbs. Hobbs led this team to its first ever championship in 2018. Since then, Vegas has only appeared in 2 of 4 playoffs. TurfToe had this to say about the coaching changes:

[u78dffd1][b78dffd1]CFL[/b78dffd1][/u78dffd1]: So what prompted the coaching change following the divisional playoff loss last season?

[u78dffd1][b78dffd1]TT[/b78dffd1][/u78dffd1]: Well, Hobbs did a good job for us but he's getting old. This is a business and just like players get cut for getting old, so do coaches. Hobbs just wasn't getting it done the last few years and I think 2018 was his peak and it's been decline ever since.

[u78dffd1][b78dffd1]CFL[/b78dffd1][/u78dffd1]: So it was a move away from Hobbs or was it a move to Gaylord?

[u78dffd1][b78dffd1]TT[/b78dffd1][/u78dffd1]: Both really. Coach Hobbs and I had discussed his future last year and Coach Gaylord was the right guy at the right time. I'm willing to let him grow into this position.

[u78dffd1][b78dffd1]CFL[/b78dffd1][/u78dffd1]: What are oyur expectations from Coach Gaylord this season?

[u78dffd1][b78dffd1]TT[/b78dffd1][/u78dffd1]: Wins, what else? I'm not bringing in a rookie QB or anything, this man is a professional coach and I expect he will coach this team to the level we were at last year or beyond. He's a big boy and this is the CFL. Period.

With the coaching situation settled, it was time for the Rounders to fill some serious holes on both sides of the ball. TurfToe has been known to push the envelope on players and get every last play squeezed out of them. We'll see if free agency and the draft was enough to patch things up for another playoff run.

Hutchins is a solid all-around back who may not reach superstar status but projects to be the best back in the draft. A terrific day at the combine may have elevated him to where he was taken by the Rounders, so hopefully he will not be a disappointment. Some eyebrows were raised when this Division II star was taken so early but he should complete for the starting job in Vegas beginning day one in camp.
