Game Report: Atlantic City 13, Santa Cruz 7
Preseason Week 3
PLAYER OF THE GAME – RB J.R. Brustkern
Brustkern averaged 5.39 yards per carry and showed that he can grind out the yards but his pass catching in the two tight end offense was even more exciting for the Phantom fans (do they really exist?). Brustkern caught 6 of the 7 passes thrown his way for 57 yards.
MISSING IN ACTION – Run Defense
Yes, we are nitpicking a bit here but we have to pick one area that needs some improvement. Only scoring 13 points is a concern but the Phantoms are built on defense and giving up 142 rushing yards and a 5.46 yard average is not good. With Tucson and Death Valley to finish up the preseason, we will get a better idea how the defense is going to stand up.
WHAT IF . . .
It is preseason so no what ifs yet.
If YOU MISSED IT
• QB Monty Lynch made his first appearance for the Phantoms and was impressive. Although he only played the first quarter, Lynch was 9/13 for 81 yards with 1 TD and a 111.4 QB rating.
• Linebacker Gino Wayne’s move from the middle to WLB looks like a success so far. This week he recorded 1 sack while also having a knockdown and 2 hurries in 13 pass plays.
• A minor quadriceps strain for starting CB Leo Pasquarella has given Dennis Porter more time on the field and he has proved to the coaches that he is still a factor in his 12th year with 4 tackles and an interception.
BY THE NUMBERS
3 – Interceptions by the ACI defense
0- Dropped passes by ACI
2 – Penalties against ACI. Can this continue?
