Game Report: Atlantic City 9, Brooklyn 3
Week 1

PLAYER OF THE GAME – QB Monty Lynch – 22/37, 229 yards, 77.4 QB Rating

The Phantoms traded for Lynch in the preseason and he quickly established himself as the best QB the team has seen in probably 10 seasons. In week 1, he was not great (there were too many incompletions in the 2nd half) but he didn’t make any mistakes. As the offense makes adjustments, Lynch should only get better and better.

MISSING IN ACTION – Red Zone Offense

If ACI wants to get to the playoffs, they will need to score touchdowns and not field goals when they get in the red zone. In 4 trips to the red zone, Atlantic City came away with 3 field goals and had another blocked. Nine points is not going to win many games, even with the tough Phantoms defense.

WHAT IF . . .

At the end of the first half, poor clock management (why kick a FG when you have a 1st down on the 5 yard line with 26 seconds left?)
and even worse special teams play turned a possible 7 play, 75 yard drive into no points.

Atlantic City called a time out.
Atlantic City: Pro formation with two tight ends, strength is right. The defense is in a 34 and 1-deep, man-to-man coverage, expecting the run.
2-2-BKN20 (2Q: 00:36) Monty Lynch pass completed to TE Myron Learned for 15 yards. Tackled by S Austin Robertson, assisted by CB Cornell Jones.
Atlantic City called a time out.
1-5-BKN05 (2Q: 00:26) Dixon Finch attempted a 22 yard field goal and it was blocked by Freckles Fleck. ACI Rico Firth recovered the ball at the BKN18.

IF YOU MISSED IT

• It took over a quarter to catch their first pass but TE’s Carlos Polhemus and Myron Learned had a good start to the season. Polhemus led the team with 7 catches for 70 yards while Myron Learned added 4 catches for 59 yards.

• The Atlantic City defense had a great game, giving up only 191 yards (81 rushing, 101 passing). Leading the way were S Wendell Myrick (11 tackles) and ILB Dominic Castillo (10 tackles)

• NT Darren Richardson had a bit of an injury scare but should only be limited for about a week with knee tendinitis

• Brooklyn DE Freckles Fleck was a force all day with 9 tackles, 1 sack, 3 blocks, 1 hurry, 1 knockdown and the blocked field goal.

BY THE NUMBERS

0 - Turnovers

1.5- Punt return average for ACI on 4 returns
