At Boxcar headquarters today the Fargo Boxcars introduced their new additions that they picked up through free agency and trades. The biggest hit with the fans was <b>James Doney</b>, the Boxcars new wide reciever who will wear number 86. Doney is the best threat at reciever the Boxcars have had, and he adds a new dimension to the passing game.
And then there were the 5 players who are expected to be starting on the Boxcar defense. Last years defensive player of the year <b>Colby Stoner</b> is the player who excited defnesive coordinator James Stuart the most. Stoner racked up 191 total tackles for Cleveland last season, along with 4.0 sacks. The combination of him and Jeffery Weinstein, both of which were first team all pro last year, gives Fargo one of the top groups of linebackers in the league. Another addition to this group was <b>Norris Soper</b>, who recorded 118 tackles and 4.0 sacks last season for Anchorage.
On the line tackle <b>Chris Cress</b> signed from Detroit, and end <b>Eric France</b> joined the team from El Paso. Cress is a journey man who is joining his 4th team in three seasons, and France has been a backup on the Rockets, meaning both of these players are unproven as full time starters. "These aren't great players," Stuart said about his new linemen, "but they're guys who can provide us with some stability on the line."
Also added was cornerback <b>Joseph Dyer</b>, also from Anchorage. Dyer only started two games last season, but he will help shore up a weak Fargo secondary.
Running backs <b>Thurman Barlow</b> and <b>Lance Benfield</b> are expected to joing the <b>Richard Saunders</b> in a backfield that will share time to replace departed back <b>Joseph Beavers</b>. Barlow, who came over in the trade of Beavers, is the most accomplished of the three, having rushed for 1043 yards on 252 carries in two years for Long Beach, could be the starter of the group, but still spliting carries with Saunders. Benfield looks most suited as a short yardage back. It is unclear which back will take over the third down duties, as none of them is as an accomplished reciever as Beavers.
The final addition so far has been Quarterback <b>Rupert Vandenberg</b>, who was brought in to tutor young quarterbacks <b>Dwayne Bridges</b> and <b>Wendell McIver</b>, though it likely means 2nd year undrafted free agent <b>Harry Kornbluth</b> days as fourth string quarterback are through. Kornbluth has been a teammate of Bridges since their days at Michigan, and although Korthbluth has a great understanding of the game, he doesn't have the physical tooks to play in the CFL. If he can't find a job elsewhere, the Boxcars may bring him back as an assistant quarterback coach.
