After last year's unexpected yet exciting playoff run, Detroit hopes to put in the missing pieces of the puzzle. The Vampires have been fairly active in free agency so far, signing 7 new players.

TE [b6711679]Brian Manos,[/b6711679] one of the best tight ends in the league, will bring a formidable weapon to our passing offense. Brian, a 5 year pro, played for New Orleans the last 2 seasons. Detroit management acted promptly when they saw that Manos had not received any offers in the early days of FA. Brian signed a deal reported to be worth 25 million $ for 5 years. Brian Manos said he was thrilled to be coming back to Michigan after his 4 years at the University of Michigan.

[b6711679]Roscoe Gilkey[/b6711679], a 6'2'' 330 pounder out of Mississipi, will instantly improve the guard position, an area where Detroit had no dominating player last season.

[b6711679]Ramon Bankston [/b6711679]was brought in from Atlantic City where he started all 16 games the last 2 seasons. Ramon was signed because of the injury to our leading safety Ly Milton, an injury sustained at the end of last season and that will unfortunately keep Ly out for the whole season probably.

[b6711679]Trevor Gainey[/b6711679], a journeyman durable OLB, was signed to a 3yr contract. He will start and mentor our crop of young linebackers.

[b6711679]Willard Collins [/b6711679]will bring his 9 years of experience as a professional QB and will be the backup of our uncontested starter Freddie Mathias. While Freddie has proven very durable so far, we were very unconfortable having no other skilled player at the QB position, one so crucial to the game.

Other players signed include tackle [b6711679]Freddy Kazmareck[/b6711679], DE [b6711679]Jason Thoamas [/b6711679]and DT [b6711679]Barry Goldsberry[/b6711679] and [b6711679]Lon Gilpin [/b6711679]who will bring experience and depth in the trenches to our O-line and D-line

Our glaring weakness is still the wide receiver position, unfortunately it seems no wideout want to play in Detroit. Despite active pursuit of many players, they have so far decided to go elsewhere... Maybe our scouts will find some hidden gems in the upcoming draft.

Enjoy Gainey. He was a good player but was just making more money than I could really afford to pay him...
