Well this might be a must win for us vs ATL and it's another stud QB with dangerous weapons. I keep wanting to get our ground game back to tradition but will be a tall task with all the studly run defenders they have and we may ahve overdone our 104 running plays. We also ended up going with a lot more misdirection than usual to hopefully get some chunks. The rain and wind should help us on D against their downfield passing and we are gonan role the dice with Bunten by doublign Reis a good bit but am worried about Old Man Mitchem as well. We dialed back the Crabtree targets as that CB looks dang good and dangerous so Fence and the tertiary options will have to step up.

Running and one big hunk to Fence set us up for 1st and goal and the opening TD. 3andO as our D tackles well in teh short area. Running and Fence gets us into scoring range quickly and we pound and dink our way to another TD. A personal foul gets ATL moving and Terry grabs a YAC chunk but we hold them at our 36 and they punt it away.

ATl tightens up their front but Mitchem improvises to find FB Finch on 3rd and 10 But backup RB Peters coughs it up after a TFL and ATL recovers and returns it to our 15. Another defensive penalty and ATL grinds it in on 3rd from the 1. We are grinding and dinking well and hit young burner Sigrest downfield with PA. Holzer gets us down inside the 10 but we can't get a completion and settle for 3. Clements battles for a couple tough 3rd down conversions and keeps hitting Reis for 10 yards even when doubled but a sack leads to a 3rd down and we hold them to a FG as well. We dink during the 4 minute drill to cross midfield at the 2M mark and Mitchem hits 4 stiaght to set up 1st and goal but a drop and pressure mean just 3 points for us going into the half.

Alright 10 point lead, 100 yards rushing, great 3rd down so far...looks good, we shoudl turn the heat up on D now with some blitzes and ATL may make us pay.

More studly tackling short from our D means Terry comes up 1 yard shy on 3rd and GRiffin Smith booms a 69 net yard punt to pin us. Stud CB Traxler leaves the game and we hit Fence ona dangerous screen at our 7 and he breaks it for 36 yards and time we pin them at their 2 and they get cute with a blast play and S Bates and LB Sutter combine to get us the safety! Mitchem takes advatage of Traxler's absnece finding Crabtree and then move Te Callaghan on teh strong side but a tripping call sets us back and yougn Sigrest can't win on 3rd and 10 so we pin them once more at their 2. ATL can't budge it and a nice PR sets us up in the orange zone once more. We can't connect downfield and narrowly hit the logn FG to go up 15. Nothing but dust on early runs for ATL leads to a 3andO. Mitchem finds Fence once and then scrambles for the 4th time today picking up an improbable 51 yards and Fence grabs the TD pass a couple plays later.

ATL moves backwards as we are just snuffing out everything short air or ground and we get a nice PR but just grind a couple minutes. Our D holds on 3rd and 2 against teh run and we try 3 passes but come up shot on 3rd. Our back end holds up against the 4 down offense and that is pretty much ballgame.

This was more in lien with what we saw last year. Dominant defensive at all levels with a good rush and superb tackling held ATL to 1 ypc and 3 ypa until garbage time and our early runiing success and 3rd down dominance fueled by great pass pro doing enough to create separation on the scoreboard early. Penalties and RZ could have been better but overall just a well played game by our guys. More or less healthy and an early bye to run some numbers and figure out what the secret sauce is hopefully.

GG Smitty…. Held you down in points, but my offense sucked again. Going to be some learning time with the young players. Hopefully it’s worth it down the road.

GG Ravenhawk, like you predicted last year, we would see each other in week 3.

After several weather delays (73 degrees and stormy with a 22 mph wind) and big plays (96 yard TD run plus a 76 yard pick six), Brooklyn was lucky to escape from Shreveport. On a few plays in Solevision, both teams "couldn't find any footing on the soaked field".

I love the open air stadiums and good luck,
Dean

GG Slim

We just couldn't get it done in the 4th and let you escape with the win. Zenzog called the score almost exactly.

Good Luck till next time.
