Vampire management did not hide its satisfaction yesterday just before the game in Albany.

Detroit picked John Gunter up from the waiver wire, after he was unexepectedly cut by the Albany Engineers just before the start of the regular season. Gunter holds all receiving records (single season and career) for the Engineers but had been holding out throughout the entire preseason. Gunter started all 16 games for Albany those last 2 seasons and was also an ALL-Pro receiver in 2003.

FFF, Detroit GM : "We tried every thing this offseason to acquire a talented WR. We lucked out in free agency, came so close in the draft and couldn't get any deals done. I was losing sleep over this. Signing John is a big relief ! We finally managed to get Freddie [Mathias, Detroit star QB] the deep threat target he deserves. We're very happy that John Gunter joins us, he is a talented receiver who will bring a lot of experience to our clubhouse. Of course, the fact that he comes from our direct division rivals Albany is icing on the cake..."

Gunter signed a 1 year deal worth 1.4 million $. The Tucson Toros were also reported too be interested in him.

Gunter joined his new teammates a few hours before the game against, oh irony, his old team Albany. He suited up and came in on a few plays, even catching a couple of balls. A quiet day to start his Vampire career, while we wait for better things to come!
