Guess we are better than I thought we would be so bringing back the weekly write ups when time allows.

Facing an intriguing Alaska squad, was exited to see what their O looked like as last year in particular they were overachievers as we were knotted up in the CC and we won on strip 6 in the final minute. Looked at a couple GPs from them and they are tougher with two always open WRs a nice TE and excellent pass blocking up front have let QB Gomez put on decent numbers. They compound this by a nice edge rushing game and alternating between downfield pass concepts and more typical dink stuff. We are gonna try to hold up with Press 1 and not much rush against the base and spread personnel and then throw a bunch of looks against the 113 from sending 6 to playing cover 3 and hope we can call the right plays at the right times and force a lot of negative plays from Gomez despite his excellent protection.

Was good to see our run game get going last week as our passing game remains very meh as it has been for a few seasons now and there wasn't anything special we did on O this week still trying new plays to see what works in the early going this season.

We get a nice edge run tot start and then are pretty efficient but can't complete the 3rd and short pass and grab 3 points. We get our own stop on 3rd and 3 for the 3andO but they snuff out consecutive screens and we take a big sack on 3rd and long and they take over at midfield after recovering the PR fumble. Theyg et one screen gain off but are stifled from their and a 3rd down sack ends it. The rookei RB Shaprio rips off another chunk but we get stranded i nte orange zone and boot it into the endzone.

ALA dinks their way to midfield but comes up short on 3rd and medium and liekwise boots it into the endzone. 3adO or us as the run game dries up but we get it back quick as we are holding them under 2 ypc and the pressure gets home once more on 3rd. We find Fence downfielda coupel tiems but so much for the GetDownfield theory as his routes are way short of the stick on 3rd and its another drive that ends with a punt to the endzone. ALA cataches us with a deep pass agaisnt hte blitz for 40 and another failed complete on 3rd leads to a tying FG. A personal foul helps us get strted as we dink our way jsut across midfield but once again can do no damage. A coupe defensive penalties help ALA get to midfiel din the hrury up but they run out of time.

Neither team can score points it seems, will see if TOs or whichever team can start generating chunks may change things.

A TE screen gets ALA nother 40 yarder and 2 compeltes later has Gomez celebrating the game's first TD. We go downfield thrice but can't connect on anything and ALA takes over with good feild position near mdifield but we catch them with a double on 3rd. Newly signe RB Ford moves the chains a couple tiems for us and we are lucky to recover a fumble on a short reception but throw an INT on a 3rd right on teh cusp of FG range and QB JOhnstoen is under 1 ypa factoring in the INT and sack. We ge teh quick stop but need to show something on O, we get one conversion on 3rd and 10 but can't the next time and are lucky it wasn't a lost strip sack. Anothe r3andO for ALA as our run D is having a helluva day. QB Johnstone gets flagged for a personal foul expressing his frustration but the vet WWr Fence bails us out with 50 on a screen and we will start hte 4th quarter with 1st and 10 at their 20 down 7.

After a drop adna familiar ohnstone scrambles for his 2nd 3rd down conversion on teh day but we have too much 104 in our GP and get 2 more familiars and settle for 3 points. Longtime Fargo nemisis RB Barker rushes past the big blitz for 50 and Gomez beats another blitz downfield to set them up in the RZ and he finds paydirt on 3rd to put them up 11. Drops are jsut killing us and ALA takes over enar midfield lookign to put this one away but our D holds up so we will have 6 minutes down 2 scores but it's not meant to be.

This game is more representative of how I htought we'd be this season. Great defense other than giving up some big plays and jsut a total inability to string together passing success and advanced metrics owuld put our stat at 3 ANY/A more or less. A lto of empty yards in a game where a coupel FGs may have helped us pull off soem heroics at the end there. Props to ALA for really having a liimted roster talentwise do so well.
