Welcome, CFL fans! This is [i0cad62e]Motormouth's Game of the Week Preview[/i0cad62e] and I'm your host, Motormouth Vazquez!
This week every game is the Game of the Week. Here is the schedule for the week 9 games:
[b0cad62e]Baltimore Bombers[/b0cad62e] (5-2) at [b0cad62e]New York Knights[/b0cad62e] (4-3)
After my Bulldogs held the Bombers to 3 points in week 4, Baltimore has exploded on offense with 31 points against Boston, 37 points against Hartford, and 45 points against Atlantic City. One the other side, the New York defense has only allowed 1 touchdown over the past 3 games. Motormouth's prediction: Baltimore wins by 6.
[b0cad62e]Boise Stampede[/b0cad62e] (5-3) at [b0cad62e]Santa Cruz Privateers[/b0cad62e] (6-1)
Santa Cruz lost in overtime in week 1 but now has won 6 straight. QB Brett Hedges is a candidate for league MVP: 74% completion percentage, 12 TDs, 2 INTs, and a league best 113.2 rating. Boise QB Branden Lin isn't far behind - 64% completion percentage, 14 TDs, 5 INTs, and a rating of 104.3. Motormouth's prediction: Boise wins by 1.
[b0cad62e]Boston Panthers[/b0cad62e] (3-4) at [b0cad62e]Tampa Bay Torpedoes[/b0cad62e] (1-6)
I'm going to try really hard not to mock the Torpedoes. The team obviously has talent, especially on defense. The Tampa Bay defense should be able to dominate this week against Boston's backup QB Curtis Soriano. Starter Charles McMillan got hurt when he got in my way during my celebration dance last week. For Boston to win they need RB William Sheehan to run often and run effectively. Motormouth's prediction: Tampa Bay wins by 4.
[b0cad62e]Charleston Monitors[/b0cad62e] (4-3) at [b0cad62e]Durham Bulldogs[/b0cad62e] (6-1)
Charleston is 4-0 against us lifetime, but the streak stops here. I've been hearing all week how we can't stop Gordon, but we've got a guy named Garth Dittman who is going to change all of that. Gordon, look out, we'll be blitzing! Motormouth's prediction: Durham wins by 7.
[b0cad62e]Cleveland Flats[/b0cad62e] (3-4) at [b0cad62e]Albany Engineers[/b0cad62e] (3-5)
You've gotta love a guy with the name Toothpick. Toothpick Lang is the best running back in this game. He broke a 75 yard TD run last week, while Albany RB Jonathan Sill has fumbled 7 times in 8 games. Motormouth's prediction: Cleveland wins by 1.
[b0cad62e]Detroit Vampires[/b0cad62e] (5-2) at [b0cad62e]New Orleans Breakers[/b0cad62e] (5-3)
The Breakers' knees are broken. WR Tibbetts out for 16 weeks with a torn ligament in his knee. DE Bronson out for 60 weeks with ACL knee surgery. LB Yuan out for 9 weeks with MCL damage to the knee. Even their punter Chris Elswick has knee tendinitis. Too many squats in the offseason perhaps? The Vampires need to find a running game before the playoffs. They are only averaging 2.93 yards per carry. Motormouth's prediction: Detroit wins by 3.
[b0cad62e]El Paso Rockets[/b0cad62e] (5-2) at [b0cad62e]Las Vegas Crawfish[/b0cad62e] (1-6)
You never know what the Rockets will bring at you. QB Lorenzo threw 41 times two weeks ago, but only threw 14 times last week. This week expect a lot of passing against the week Crawfish secondary. The Crawfish have finally signed holdout 1st round draft pick CB Terry Grayvil and he might get significant playing time right away. On offense, Las Vegas WR Michael "Can Can" McCandless has been one of the few bright spots on the team with 6 TD catches this year. Motormouth's prediction: El Paso wins by 10.
[b0cad62e]Fargo Boxcars[/b0cad62e] (2-5) at [b0cad62e]Honolulu Blue Pacific[/b0cad62e] (6-1)
The Blue Pacific dominate the passing game on both sides of the ball. Ronnie Tu leads the offense that averages 273 passing yards and 27 points per game. Their defense only allows 153 passing yards per game, best in the CFL. In a couple seasons we might say the same thing about Boxcar QB Dwayne Bridges, but he's not there yet. Motormouth's prediction: Honolulu wins by 14.
[b0cad62e]Hartford Attack[/b0cad62e] (4-3) at [b0cad62e]Atlantic City Phantoms[/b0cad62e] (3-4)
Do you remember Atlantic City QB Joel Razo? [i0cad62e]**Audience yells**[/i0cad62e] He has fallen apart since he
appeared on my show. The Phantoms are now last in passing yards with only 127 per game. Hartford is 4-0 at home, but 0-3 on the road this year. Hartford needs this one though and they will get their first road victory of the season. Motormouth's prediction: Hartford wins by 10.
[b0cad62e]Long Beach Calibri[/b0cad62e] (2-6) at [b0cad62e]Anchorage Unknown[/b0cad62e] (5-3)
Long Beach's star RB Joseph Beavers was placed on injured reserve and will miss the remainder of the season with a torn lateral knee ligament. This injury may cost him a lot of money since he is in the last year of his contract. If Long Beach starts passing they will be in trouble as the Unknown's DEs, Simonton and Bousquet, are on pace to combine for 33 sacks this year. Motormouth's prediction: Anchorage wins by 2.
[b0cad62e]Memphis Express[/b0cad62e] (4-4) at [b0cad62e]San Antonio Armadillos[/b0cad62e] (6-2)
San Antonio's big free agent acquisition, Chester "the molester" Brumley, is on pace for 1300 rushing yards this year. He also has more receptions (47) than anyone in the league, including WRs! Look out, Memphis! The Express are last in the league in rushing defense, allowing 144 yards per game and 5 yards per carry! Motormouth's prediction: Brumley rumbles all over Memphis and San Antonio wins by 13.
[b0cad62e]Oregon Ice[/b0cad62e] (3-5) at [b0cad62e]Huntington Beach Capitalists[/b0cad62e] (1-6)
This one is an easy prediction. Oregon leads the league in points scored (189) while Huntington Beach has the league's worst turnover ratio (-8). Motormouth's prediction: Oregon wins by 20.
[b0cad62e]Sacramento Dragons[/b0cad62e] (5-2) at [b0cad62e]Seattle Thunderbirds[/b0cad62e] (2-5)
Seattle has gained some confidence from their 2 game winning streak. They have found a playmaker on defense in LB Richard Suazo: 1 INT returned 88 yards for a TD, 3 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery. Sacramento also has a pleasant surprise in rookie WR Jermaine Gardocki. The 4th round draft pick has 23 catches for 323 yards and 2 TDs. Motormouth's prediction: Sacramento has their 4th overtime game of the season but pulls it out and wins by 3.
[b0cad62e]Tulsa Talons[/b0cad62e] (1-6) at [b0cad62e]Tucson Toros[/b0cad62e] (6-0-1)
The undefeated Tucson Toros have this home game before 4 straight road games. Tucson has the best defense in the CFL which means trouble for Tulsa's rookie QB Donnie Lowe. He'll need to get a lot of support from 2nd year running back Butch Fulton (7th in the league in rushing yards). Motormouth's prediction: Tulsa upsets the Toros by 6.
That's it for me. I have to go practice some new celebration dances! Good night, Motormouth fans! [i0cad62e]**The crowd applauds**[/i0cad62e]
