What's the judgement on my pick? I passed over Benson to get Hopper at DE, in the hopes of getting someone with low volatility who can play right away.

I liked Hopper a lot myself - if a decent CB hadn't fallen to me I would've gone with him.

Hopper was higher on my board than Benson as well. I think that you picked the better of the two, no doubt. You also got good value at your pick, it was about where I had Hopper going, so it was no surprise.

Thanks. I'm always second-guessing myself while drafting, nice to know I'm not totally off base...

[quote0315d3b="Raven Hawk"]Anchorage had an excellent pick getting Arnie Pritchett. I was hoping that he would fall to me in the second round, but I was pretty sure he wasn't If he was still on the board when the second round came around, I was going to try and make a move for him.

It's not bad selecting the second fastest guy in the CFL with a late first round pick.

Nice pick, Anchorage.[/quote0315d3b]

Thanks much. It was between him and a cornerback, but my #1 option is a Marty Booker-level player wanting Terrell Owens money, and this guys combine times were just too damn good to pass up

Anyone notice that Steelerdaddy's mascot looks like good old Salad Fingers?

Did I miss something? The rookie draft thread now says that Pritchett is on the Tampa squad . . .

So if I stepped on anyone's toes while beginning this draft preview I am about to post, I can and would be be willing to stop at any time.

No no, keep it coming! I just wish I had made a pick for you to judge instead of a trade!

I'm pretty sure that none of us have toes.

I liked Bensen a little better, but that could just be my scout. Still I do not think there is that big of a difference to worry over.

It can also have something to do with personal preference. Some people prefer to have more "Current" over "Future." My scout also said that Benson was better, but I liked Hopper's Current ratings better. Hopper also had better combine numbers.

Yea...really it is just a guessing game. The players were both similar. Baltimore is obviosuly a team that is competing now so I can see the pick. My scout is the best in secondary. Sometimes an owner picks a CB or a S and I am like what is he thinking? I guess that is how the game goes.

Anyone see a trend in the AC East? Between [b4c5d7f6]Gordon[/b4c5d7f6] and [b4c5d7f6]Alvey[/b4c5d7f6] we really ahve pushed for some upgrades, eh?

It's downright scary.

As an interesting tidbit, I'm in an almost as strong division in the HFL. Last week, all four teams had a winning record and at least 6 wins...(!)

Sucks to be you!

But really... the AC East is looking to become even tougher... I am shocked though that no one has picked up the defending champions.. I can only guess that it is because we are at draft time and it is no fun picking 32nd?

I hope that I've done enough this offseason to put up a good division fight this year. DT wasn't my biggest need going into the draft, but I believe in taking the best player available and according to my scout that was Plangeard. He's a run stuffer so look out, Alvey!

Well, although not your biggest need, getting help to take some load off of Motormouth is actually probably a very good thing. Motormouth has great ratings, but with his surrounding cast, he probably got a lot of double teaming, etc...

CBs have really become a hot comodity...

I think they are endlessly valuable in this game, so I see why... I'm glad I have the two bona-fide stars that I have on my team, but my depth is severely lacking and I doubt that I will be able to keep both of them on the squad for very long... in fact, this may be the last year that they are on the team together depending on how things work out...

That is why I went CB in round one. I have one guy signed long term but he has a 0 in interceptions and doesn't seem to have played up to his ratings yet. I approached my 5th round pick about an extension but he was asking for 5M+ so he'll play out his rookie contract. Basically, I needed someone cheap who would be a solid starter in a year or two, and I wasn't ready to go with one of the tackles and give up on Orumieh.

Tucson Toros made yet another excellent pick. If hadn't taken Cherpeski in round 2, Fasnacht was my target for round 4. Good pick. Excellent draft for the Toros so far.
