I rex'd the defense and got 37 points dropped on me -- should have just left my wk1/wk2 plans in place.

and what is this?:

2-5-LAS18 (2Q: 03:12) Play-Action. Jessie Hughes pass completed to TE Terrance Seeley for 18 yards and a TOUCHDOWN! Los Angeles 14, Miami 13
OFFENSE 212 Personnel, Pro formation, Shotgun DEFENSE 43 Under, Regular Personnel, Man to Man

Post subject:  Re: 2057 Week 3

At LVS, with our top two secondary guys out we may have trouble with their passing attack. Regardless look for plenty of pass pressure as both teams put 2 elite pass rushers on the field at nearly all times.

We had a perfect opening, with Fulton ripping off 4 firsts as we overcame penalties and executed short yardage over 7 minutes for a TD. Vegas goes backwards on penalties and a sack, we can't move it but stay on top of the field position battle, Vegas goes spread and gets across midfield but our rush shuts them down. We take a sack but Woodard takes the hit and goes downfield to rookie Fence to get us out of trouble and we pkod along but a hold slows us down.

Conley grabs a deep one but we pick McKnight on 3rd down, Fulton goes over 100 on a 20 yard gain and a failed completion leads to a FG. Vegas again has early success with the spread but end up booting it into the end zone. Woodard is excellent converting 2 tough 3rds but again a penalty gets us off schedule but we get past the distance only to throw a pick with a minute left and Vegas comes up short on the FG try.

For a good while Vegas was below 2 ypp with us near 7 but things are much closer now. Neither team can really string together 3 good plays without a pass rush or penalty throwing things off. I imagine Vegas will score some points in the 2nd so we will see if we can avoid mistakes and add enough to pull this off.

Both teams can't convert past midfield before Vegas gets their ground game going to get a FG and cut the lead to 7. Rookie Fence continues his breakout now at 8/8 for 108 yards but no consistency leads to a blocked punt and Vegas set up to tie it up. Conley converts them a 3rd and 15 but we hold them to another FG.

UDFA pilkington gets 2 grabs for us we pkod and pkink our way to the RZ and hit the TE for an important TD. Vegas uses running and YAC to get into our end quickly and this time get their TD but come up short as Bays stuffs them on the 2 pointer inside of 5 minutes. Fence grabs another for us so we can go into clock killing mode. Malachi sniffs out two plays though so Vegas takes over at roughly the 2 minute mark down 5 (deja Vu)...and after our standard hurry hurry start to the series Kinsley takes a 6 yard pass 83 yards to put Vegas up 1 and they hit the 2 pointer to make it a 3 point game with 1:18 left. We start out at the 7 and take a dangerous sack but Fence grabs two big ones for us to put us at our 42 with 55 second left. Two more completions and we are in long FG range but somehow we run two plays including a scramble and the clock winds down....what!!!!

Eerily similar team stats with the difference being our 3rd down conversions but also 11 penalties.

Great to see Fulton and the ground game perform. The passing game too was near 75% per dropbacj but on 23 receptions we only gained 15 YAC all from Fence. Take out the 80 yarder and we dominated Vegas in the air as they would have been well under 50% and 5 ANY/A.

Just realizing now that the AI messed with my OL depth chart as CKeith was probable likely due to the injury setting whoops.

Fence finished 12/12 for 167 with a TD and 3 third down conversions, so we should be good without Crabtree by Vegas was just a bit too much for us.

Besto of luck the rest of the way TT.

Hartford --

In a game where yardage came freely, points were the costly commodity. Hartford were able to score the only touchdown and fend off a final comeback drive by Mitchem. Hartford ILB Keegan Bridges was able to make the tackle on Detroit WR Denver stretching out to break the plane on the final play and keep the game from potentially going to overtime.

It was a bitter pill to swallow for the new look Vampires on the road. Coach Perkins had this to say after the game, "We did a lot of things right but we simply could not convert in the red zone. We're leaning on Murray a lot and he is doing a phenomenal job on the ground. I think our passing game is just a little off-sync with the new guys coming in and Rico still not at 100%. Denver tried to make a hell of a play there at the end and it came down to a few inches, but we shouldn't have even been in that situation. Plenty of football left to go and we'll make sure to put the hurt on Iowa next week."

A week after attempting only 28 throws, QB Mitchem ended the day with 20 completions on 42 attempts for 242 yards. Mitchem at the postgame: "It's a new system, new players, and Coach and I are trying to figure things out. Last week, you know, we tried running the ball a bit more. This week, I had the green light to air it out and... well, we just have a few things to work on."

Detroit goes on to play division rival Iowa City, coming off a 21-21 tie with New Orleans.

Scanning through the box scores and I see Baltimore's leading rusher is his QB with 3 rushes for 9 yards... RBs combining for -5 yards on 17 carries and it was a heck of a close game...

Couple of bizarre games around the league, but at least everyone in my division lost / at least didn't win. :)

I blame my team "looking ahead" to Iowa City instead of playing Hartford...

GG Vito. M2M is bump N run. That's normal.

Hughes had a big game. Getting his first 4th quarter comeback win connecting with Kemp twice for TDs in the 4th and throwing 5 TDs in the game. Defense did good picking Bailey twice and getting some hurries.

We look to keep it alive against Alaska and then Oregon. Looks to be two competitive games.

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, Amadro throws an int in the endzone on the last play of the game.

Hard to believe I was even in a game, leading most of it in fact, where I had 4 net rushing yards.

Offensive play calling is still suspect at times, but things are looking promising.

GG Josh. That 4th quarter was a bit crazy.

1st and goal for Atlantic City at the 2 yard line. Great stand by Omaha to only give up a FG. Ouch, not sure I could recover from that.

- 4-6-OMA06 (4Q: 11:00) Harrison Tucker attempted a 23 yard field goal and succeeded. Omaha 28, Atlantic City 27

3 and out by Omaha

3 and out by Atlantic City

3 and out by Omaha. But wait!

- 4-15-OMA08 (4Q: 06:38) Sammy Ozkilkis punted 55 yards. Alvin Breien returned the kick 63 yards for a TOUCHDOWN! Atlantic City 33, Omaha 28 (2 point conversion failed)

Game on but lots of time for Omaha. Turns out, plenty of time

- 1-10-ACI45 (4Q: 03:54) Leonardo Harrison pass completed to WR Pat Kocurek for 45 yards and a TOUCHDOWN! Kocurek gained 45 yards after the catch. Omaha 34, Atlantic City 33 (2 point conversion failed)

Omaha gets a first down but then is held to give Atlantic City one more chance. Hail Mary pass...

- 3-10-ACI38 (4Q: 00:29) Jared Graham pass was intended for WR Maxwell Stephenson and was intercepted by CB Neil Kaiser at the OMA03. The interception was returned 27 yards. Tackled by Kody Wagner.

Somewhat true, but not entirely. If you call the following:
Cover 1
against 2 WR - LCB/RCB/WLB/NB are all in M2M, FS in Deep Zone
Cover 1
against 3 WR - LCB/RCB/WLB/NB are all in M2M, FS in Deep Zone
Cover 2
against 2 WR - LCB/RCB are in M2M, SS/FS=Zone
Cover 2
against 3 WR - LCB/RCB are in M2M, SS/FS=Zone
Cover 3 Sky - All DB's are in zone
Cover 3 Cloud - LCB is M2M, all others in zone

Hope this helps.

Was gutted to see Cornejo, what was he? Back-up CB? Dime CB?, not even the Nickel CB, with interception bar 5/100 pick my Grueneich 2x. :D

You got a solid play book regarding your pass plays. Tried to gamble with a lot more DC on best WR. I don't think, that Blanchard even once sent the ball towards double coverage.

Post subject:  Re: 2057 Week 3 playcalling on D.

I had a strange thing happen on my Defense in week 3.

This is the play:
"OFFENSE 131 Personnel, Weak formation, Shotgun

DEFENSE 43 Over, Regular Personnel, Press-2

3-8-KCY48 (2Q: 15:00) Timothy Joslyn pass completed to WR Sedrick Van Dyke for 21 yards. Tackled by ILB Jonathan Donhoff. Van Dyke gained 9 yards after the catch."

True, it lined up in regular formation, but it used my nickel personnel.
My LCB played WLB - short zone
My RCB played LCB - BNR
My NCB played RCB - BNR.

Ideas to stop it happening again?

Also, the tackle was made by my MLB. All 3 TE's ran a slant route. One should think, that the MLB - in short coverage - would have his hands full with the 3 TE's 'slanting' all over his zone, but he managed to make the tackle on the WR on a Comeback route 21 yards down the field. :P

Since the last update something is happening with 3rd down defense against Regular offensive sets.

Previously Regular D stayed in on 3rd and long and your 33rd and long nickel personnel only played against 3wrs on 3rd and long.

Also previously we saw this happen on 3rd and short situations, where if you ran a 3wr set in 3rd and short the 3rd and short personnel (regular) would play the down leading to the WLB being the LCB, the LCB being the RCB and etc.

Regarding who tackles and even who covers, the engine doesn't exactly have matchups but rather a weighted distribution model and I think that tackle assignments are independent of play level coverage responsibikities. You can read the breakdown on run defense in the help guide to get an idea how the math works.

gg Ush and enjoyed the writeup above as usual.

In our recent match-ups, it seems the team that plays better always loses in the end and this was no different. Because of this, I actually felt like I had a chance down the stretch and just shook my head on that 83-yard score. This shit is starting to become routine to end our games.

Fence is the real deal. I remember discussing him with Shooter during the draft who almost took him in front of me in the first. He said he'd let me have him at my pick but I passed on both Gmerek and Fence to get secondary help. I got Gmerek back but based on his limited action so far I may regret the all-in move for him. I should have listened to Shooter and just taken Fence. lol
