Hosting ALA and Jimmy M, one of my favorite opponents this year. Down to a street QB and without Crabtree our expectations are low but hope our D GP does well. We have been able to force mistakes from Jimmy in the past and are employing a Tampa defense for perhaps the first time.

We throw an armpunt on 3rd and their edge running helps them get a FG. We pound it in on 3rd and goal from their one in a bruising 8 minute drive. Big play Grauer gets them one but we toherwise shut them down, we are moving it downfield but we throw a big pick 6 to put ALA up 3.

We hit posseession man Sheldon for a big gian but get sacked out of FG range. Another quick stop for our D but we cant even complete the short stuff we push ALA back ot a 3rd and forever but they hit Jennings but we get the pick right after the 2 minute warning only to see them get a strip sack on teh first snap.

Ecstatic how we ar playing but have ot think tha twe are stil down 3 and couldn't ask much more. Ovr 100 ayrds rushing wiht 8 1sts generated and an insane 4-6 YTG average on 3rd.

Big plays and edge running kill us as they go up 9 with a missed XP. Our run game has lost its grit and we pin them and get he stop but anice punt negates the advantage. Maligned TE Schulz breaks on though on 3rd but again we get aggressive in scoring range and throw a pick. Jimmy does his thing picking us apart and puts ALA up 16 to end hte 3rd.

We again do well to get into Fg range but another 3rd down INT means no points and likely ballgame. We plod our way to a FG and get a PR TD or something (EDIT: was rookie stud Fence with some YAC play) to make it a 6 point game with minutes left and Jimmy M throws his own pick 6 so with the XP we go up 1 with 4 minutes left. Only for Don Washingotn to go 69 yards right down our throat now at 15 ofr 139. The 2 pointer is good so while we habe plenty of time we need the TD. 3 consecutive completions have us at their 30 outside of 2 minutes but we can't overcome a sack and punt it away for ballgame.

Well if we had run it some on 3rd an dmedium we likely coudl awon as we converted all 6 3rd and short attempts but went 2/9 via the air. And some real drma at the end there. Fun game Marven as usual! Kinda like last year we are 2-3, beat up but love our chances if we can sneak in as a wild card to beat anyone.

we actually outgained ALA but their nearly 7 ypc really hurt us as well as the -3 TO margin. We did go 8/16 on 3rd so then again if we ran it more than we may never have got this close.

We held Jimmy to 6 YPA and got the 2 picks roughing him as is our MO.

La-Z-Boy Stadium, Detroit -

The Omaha offense is a thing of beauty and an early interception and fumble returned for a TD proved to be small road bumps on their way to a victory.

QB Harrison threw for 467 yards and four touchdowns, WR Dole caught 8 balls for 202 yards and the Arrowheads won their fifth straight game by beating the Detroit Vampires 37-26 on Sunday.

"You really can't stop Marcus Dole, " Vampires Head Coach Perkins said. "You can only hope to contain him and we did for one half... maybe two and a half quarters, but this is a four quarter game. I thought we did some good things getting after Harrison, but we really should've gotten a bit more on him. He did a good job getting the ball out."

Early sacks and interceptions traded in the first half did slow Omaha momentarily as Detroit carried a 20-13 lead into halftime, but an injury to Detroit's CB Greenslade proved to have deletrious effect into the second half. Omaha was held to 193 net yards in the first half, but after the break the Detroit secondary seemed a bit lost without the veteran presence as Omaha outgained Detroit 294 to 167, and outscored Detroit 24-6.

Massive offensive penalties threw off Detroit's rhythm as QB Mitchem tried to keep pace and failed redzone visits couldn't be overcome. "In that fourth quarter, you know, we had a good drive going. Andres and Howard both got called for really ticky tacky penalties that called back some big yards and it really was just too much. We were only down 1 point there too, it's just very disappointing." QB Mitchem said after the game.

By this writer's estimation, Detroit played a good game for three quarters, but really dropped the ball on the fourth. You simply cannot kick field goals against this Omaha team if you are planning on winning.

Detroit goes on to play at Durham next week while Omaha enjoys their bye.

WTF? 8 seconds left, down by 2 at their 26 yard line? Spike the ball and kick the F*CKING FIELD GOAL! That's a 43 yarder! Why the hell did you think you needed to get another play in?

UGH!

Good game, Aamalin. That was drop down, drag out fight. It's hard to have a closer game than that. Well played. Will see you later this year at your place.

GG Smitty, thought my gameplan was working pretty well, losing my starting CB and some horrible penalties killed my momentum... Maybe could've made some personnel changes to cover Dole better, but didn't think he would quite gash me THIS badly on his own.

I really don't know what the point of the "Go for it on 4th down" section of Game Plan Details does cuz I don't think I've ever gone for it on 4th unless I was losing in the 4th qtr. Maybe I just need to put "Always" in for everything and my coach will take the hint.

GG Zenzog,

Great writeup, what a crazy game but you covered it very well.

Good luck with the rest of your season, you have a tough team.

Good game man.

GG Ushikawa,

We seen a mismatch with the secondary and we wanted to stay away from your killer LB's. Thought we would run outside, and make sure none of our routes would challenge the LB's. We also wanted to keep you in nickle or dime defense to negate your depth at LB. So we didn't run any offensive plays in the 212 or 122 sets. Thought it was a good game to try something new out. We have to pull out all the tricks in the bag if we want to get the "W" against the Sodbusters. It's always fun to play against a quality team and a classy owner. Good luck the rest of the year.

I didn't notice that Marven and am flattered you went to the effort. Have to say GPing against you guys was very tough, kinda had to pick your poison and looks like you leveraged the right spots.

So I skimmed over Ushikawa's writeup earlier but went back and actually looked at the Fargo Alaska game log after seeing Marven's post. Yikes, what a fun game that was to read.

Really encouraging to see that defensive gameplanning might actually be effective when trying to stop these monstrous QBs (though I was mostly unsuccessful against Leonardo Harrison...) It looks like my squad is pretty stout against the run, but maybe need to get more pressure on opposing QBs to make up for seemingly poor pass defense.

Yeah, I didn’t like the way that game ended. You should have had a shot at the FG to win. Otherwise a great game showing two teams with not much between them. Unfortunately I lost my LT for the year. This season the injuries are starting to add up...

I Look forward to the rematch in Tennessee.

GG Miami, my qb suffered a compound leg fracture on the second drive of the game handing the ball off and is out for the remainder of the season! Ugh I was really looking forward to see what we could do this season. Gotta love this game sometimes! Next man up, on to a Fargo team who also seems to be a bit banged up as well.
