Can't do my usual recap until the html is updated but from what I saw on solevision it was a pretty complete game and probably the best I'll ever see out of Mitchem. I could see the choke coming down the tracks when STL drove 94 yds and hit the 2 pt conversion, but somehow was able to fend off the comeback.

Normally would expect Mitchem to fold if the run game got stopped up, but somehow didn't happen... Team continues to rank bottom of the league in almost every defensive metric except rush ypc and points allowed per game still feels unsustainable but who am I to complain.

gg kc_fan!

Also a couple bizarro world results like the Durham and Omaha games...

GG Seattle, we needed that win. If the Schnitzel only throws one pick we did okay and he was fire on 3rd, sorry no more write-up at the beach still.

Woodard has recovered to probable and with a division game up think we will roll the dice and play him.

Post subject:  Vampires back to winning ways, beating St Louis 21-14

Detroit, MI --

The Vampires (3-4) ended their two-game losing streak before it turned into a slide off the back of QB Devan Mitchem's best game of the season. Throwing 28-23-258 for 3 TDs, Mitchem was able to spread the ball and shredded a St. Louis defense lead by star rookie CB Alec Traxler.

"I just followed Coach and his game plan, " Mitchem said after the game. "We were able to get a lot of yards after the catch making guys miss and stuff. The guys just didn't want to lose today. Hell, I didn't want to lose again."

The Detroit defense did their part, allowing the Arch only 3 points in the first half, though St. Louis made the adjustments necessary to tie up the game in the 3rd quarter. Chunk plays by RB Blasingame and WR Hilliard set up a 28 yard field goal in one drive and a well spread attack by the Arch into the 4th quarter capped off a 94 yard drive for 8 more points.

With 14 minutes to go in a suddenly tied game, it was up to Mitchem to keep the game from slipping away. The first possession in the 4th quarter didn't go well as the St. Louis pass rush found a way to sack Mitchem on back to back plays. Detroit would get the ball back and right when it seemed like the same old tune, the new kid on the block RB Arbogast came up trumps with the biggest run of the day for either team-- 38 tough yards. Then, it was up to old reliable, TE Voinovich to move the chains. WR Writt, on his sole target of the game, was the beneficiary of the attention that Voinovich commanded and scampered, barely touched, into the end zone.

Still, at 21-14 with almost 7 minutes to go, the game was not over. Arch QB Upshaw got to work quickly, but stone hands and penalties stifled the first drive. Detroit would play the remainder of the game conservatively, keeping the ball safe on the ground and forcing St Louis to drive 82 yards to survive. This time, it would be Detroit's pass rush able to close out the game with a pair of sacks.

Next up, a divisional game against old friends in Cleveland. The trade deadline looms closer and we may see a different Vampires squad take the field, but the team has played well since losing at Hartford in week 3.

GG Turf -- we needed this split badly.

Looks like a close one from the box score. My game plan was about 58% run on 1st down and 50% on second down IIRC, but only had 13 rushes for the game?

I'm curious to see how the game unfolded to understand why we didn't run it any more than that. I planned on running the ball quite a bit and it just didn't happen.

it was a back and forth contest and really came down to the Outlaws getting some dice rolls late in the in the 4th.

The X-factor looks to have been TE2 Rob Mayes -- he got a lot of targets and made two huge plays to give us the edge at home.

I thought we'd get smoked today TBH but I'm happy to see us getting back on track.

gg smitty
I thought the defense played well, we contained you, though you still got your yards. Glad to get the win
