2069 Las Vegas Rounders Draft Review

1-01 (1)
David Kaesviharn QB Fresno State
6'1" 210 lbs

Pre-Camp:
Post-Camp Analysis:

All three QBs were considered the guy for Vegas at one point or another leading up to the draft. In the end, Kaesviharn heard his name called by Commissioner Smitty for the first overall pick to kick off the 2069 draft. Woodson was the clear favorite arm in this class but the combine exposed an athletic monster in Bey, who had one of the best combines of the decade. However, after the interview cycle finished, it was Kaesviharn who emerged atop the Vegas draft board. With the second-best arm in the draft and the best soft skills of the bunch, Kaesviharn should be the answer in Vegas.

3-07 (71)
Avery Thames OT Oklahoma Stater
6'0" 306 lbs

Pre-Camp:
Post-Camp Analysis:

After trading up from 1.09 to 1.01, we had to send our 2.08 and 3rd next year up to Seattle. With 10 Tackles and a handful of Guards gone by the early 3rd, we liked Thames to step in as our swing Guard on day one. With LeFavor heading into his 9th year, it won't be long before Rottinghous returns to the right side and Thames takes over at LG.

4-06 (102)
Martin Boeck WR Indiana
5'11" 188 lbs

Pre-Camp:
Post-Camp Analysis:

We had a hard time deciding between Boeck and Doersburg here. Boeck's combine was a tale of two outcomes, but his skills are very intriguing. Boeck enters a young WR room with another new addition of Bobby Burns via free agency. Burns and Ungerer are the vets who can hopefully steer these young bucks in the right direction. We had WR Harder as a late-3rd/early-4th grade but it's the CFL and we couldn't get back into the mid-3rd so we went with the next WR on our list. We are counting on Boeck's hands, 3rd down catching, route running, and big-play receiving to support Kaesviharn's upcoming campaign.

4-07 (76)
Duane Doersburg S Penn State
6'0" 205 lbs

Pre-Camp:
Post-Camp Analysis:

When you can't decide between two guys, call Mikey for a trade. Boeck was our guy at 4.06, so if we couldn't make a reasonable trade here, we still go WR Boeck and hope our guy falls. Doersburg had the bars we wanted to backfill an aging Safety and looks like a poor man's Mitch Wickes - he just trades some CB bars for a little zone skill. This was the first pick where we deviated from our usual valuation method, so if Duane doesn't make the cut, we won't be surprised.

5-05 (133)
Dustin Cheatwood S Penn State
5' 11" 198 lbs

Pre-Camp:
Post-Camp Analysis:

Cheatwood was high on our list and even though we went with Doersburg with 4.07, we couldn't let Cheatwood and his combine slip any further. His broad jump is the only blemish on his combine and we don't believe his bars are accurate. It's been a while since we let combine dictate a pick. It's still unclear if Dustin is a corner or safety but we'll make that determination at some point.

7-08 (200)
Toby Connell RB Wisconsin
5' 9" 205 lbs

Pre-Camp:
Post-Camp Analysis:

This is where we like to find combine-only guys and we already warmed up with Cheatwood in the 5th, so let's roll with Connell in the 7th. His combine scores suggest these bars are heavily masked. Or they're not and we're wrong. Again, no surprise whichever way he turns out. We are looking forward to his development and hopeful unmasking.

7-23 (215)
Tony Meier QB Kansas State
6' 2" 215 lbs
Image

Pre-Camp:
Post-Camp Analysis:

I don't know why we had QBs on our list still. The deck is stacked against Meier right out of the gate, as he is the 5th member of our QB room and we'll be surprised if he makes the 60-man roster heading into the pre-season. We'll be chasing down a guy or two in 2nd FA that were after Meier on our list.
