I have never done this, but am curious where you guys stand on the ethics of this.

Do you / have you ask or asked a fellow GM with a scout rated highly in another position what his scout thinks of a particular player?

Say I wanted to draft NT Shannon but my scout was rated poorly in DL, do you think it crosses the line to ask a fellow GM for his opinion?

I've been approached in other leagues to do this very thing. ..I think it kinda hurts your team more than helps, there's a reason for scouts and their different rankings. ..


for me it depends on the g.m. that's asking, if he's an ass, definitely not, but if he's a alright, then maybe. ..

definitely after the pick is made, I think that's okay.

If the ref didn't see it then it didn't happen.

Ethical or not? I dunno, I think it's in the grey area but could probably be swayed one way or the other with the proper argument.

I don't really see it as a big deal. For one, I have volunteered scouting info about other people's guys as part of what I considered a group effort to learn about the game and how the interview aspect works. I suppose this mostly (probably entirely) took place after the guys were picked, but I don't think it's really fundamentally different than what you're asking.

On top of that, nobody is forced to say yes. Anybody that doesn't want to share for whatever reason wouldn't have to. I wouldn't share info with any of my division mates, for example, or about a player I was considering drafting or etc.

Maybe my point of view is different cause I still don't put a ton of stock into the interview results. I take them into consideration, but I look at everything else first. I actually wouldn't even bother asking someone what their scout thought of a player before I made my pick. Once I've made the pick, I do like to hear what various scouts said and what other GMs thought of my guy out of curiousity, but I just don't think it's something that would sway my decision.

agreed...its one thing to banter on the board and compare notes in public as we talk about players drafted...its another to share confidential in-house info...no team would do that...its not even close to a discussion

Have you ever been around pro or college scouts at a high school football game? Yeah, they don't share information... :roll:

The reason I think it's grey is because the interviews reveal more than what your scout thinks of a player. There's scout opinion and there's your draft board. One I would consider sharing and the other I would not. I think the interviews falll in the middle of those two things, revealing more than scout opinion but not necesarily revealing a draft strategy or other 'internal information'.

If an owner shared interview info with another team would it bother me? I'm not sure, I guess if the info persuaded the GM before me to take the guy I wanted then yes, but no more so than when the league selects a player I want for an absentee GM right before my selection.

I've applied my rule of reality several tmes and I still cannot remove it from the grey area. There have been no significant arguments presented to help me out with this one either. Anyone have significant discussion to add with their opinion?
