[size=1890b30d2][b90b30d2]Clinch scenarios for week 17:[/b90b30d2][/size90b30d2]

All teams still alive are listed, all scenarios are clinch scenarios for week 17; teams are ordered by current playoff seeding order within their conference.

[u90b30d2][b90b30d2]Eastern Football Conference:[/b90b30d2][/u90b30d2]

[b90b30d2]New Orleans[/b90b30d2]:
has clinched division title and #1 seed

[b90b30d2]Durham[/b90b30d2]:
has clinched playoff spot
can clinch division and #2 seed with
* win
#5 seed with
* loss

[b90b30d2]Hartford[/b90b30d2]:
has clinched division
#2 seed with
* win + Durham loss + favorable strength of victory tiebreaker (see note 1)
#3 seed with
* win + Durham loss + unfavorable strength of victory tiebreaker (see note 1)
* loss
* Durham win

[b90b30d2]Cleveland[/b90b30d2]:
can clinch division and #4 seed with
* win
* loss and favorable strength of victory tiebreaker (see note 2)

[b90b30d2]Tampa Bay[/b90b30d2]:
has clinched a playoff spot
can clinch division with
*win
#2 seed with
* win + Hartford loss
* win + favorable strength of victory tiebreaker (see note 1)
#3 seed with
* win + Hartford win + unfavorable strength of victory tiebreaker (see note 1)
#5 seed with
* loss

[b90b30d2]Charleston[/b90b30d2]:
#6 seed with
* win

[b90b30d2]Atlantic City[/b90b30d2]:
#6 seed with
* win + Charleston loss

[b90b30d2]Memphis[/b90b30d2]:
#6 seed with
* win + Charleston loss + Boston win

[b90b30d2]Boston[/b90b30d2]:
#6 seed with
* win + Charleston loss + Memphis loss

[b90b30d2]Chicago[/b90b30d2]:
can clinch division and #4 seed with
* win and favorable strength of victory tiebreaker (see note 2)

[i90b30d2]note 1[/i90b30d2]: if Tampa Bay and Hartford both win, they both finish with a 12-4 record, a 9-3 conference record, a 4-1 record in common games. The difference would then be down to tiebreaker #5, strength of victory.

[i90b30d2]note 2[/i90b30d2]: If Chicago beats Cleveland, it is down to tiebreaker #5, strength of victory. As of today, Chicago and Cleveland are also tied for that tiebreaker as well. Week 17 results will make the difference.

[u90b30d2][b90b30d2]Western Football Conference[/b90b30d2][/u90b30d2]:

[b90b30d2]Boise[/b90b30d2]:

#3 seed with
* win
* El Paso loss
#4 seed with
* loss and El Paso win

[b90b30d2]El Paso[/b90b30d2]:

can clinch division with
* win
* Denver loss
#3 seed with
* win and Boise loss
#4 seed with
* win + Boise win
* Denver loss
#5 seed with
* loss + Denver win

[b90b30d2]Denver[/b90b30d2]:
can clinch division and #4 seed with
* win + El Paso loss
#5 seed with
* win
#6 seed with
* loss + Fargo loss
* loss + Long Beach loss

[b90b30d2]Fargo[/b90b30d2]:
#5 with
* win + Denver loss
#6 with
* win + Denver win

[b90b30d2]Long Beach[/b90b30d2]:
#5 with
* win + Denver loss + Fargo loss
#6 with

I [i5315cb7]think [/i5315cb7]these are right.

But I could be wrong, especially in the case of Memphis where I'm not 100% sure.

I think Memphis gets in with a win, a Charleston loss, and a Boston win over Atlantic City. If that happens then Memphis, Charleston, and Boston are all 9-7.

- Conference record: a Charleston loss gives them a 5-7 conference record, while a Memphis win gives them a 6-6 conference record. If Boston wins they also have a 6-6 conference record. So Charleston is eliminated.

- Memphis beat Boston head-to-head in week 4.

Is that correct?

Strength of victory is figured by calculating the combined winning percentage of the opponents a team has beaten. Combine the records of the opponents in each of the team's wins and calculate the total winning percentage. The team whose opponents have the higher winning percentage wins the tiebreaker.

Well, I'll make sure Hartford gets a sending off party for the playoffs. .. :evil:

we may not win, but we'll play our butts off.

Hmm, i think you're right.

I was wrongly using the 'common games tiebreaker' before the conference record, and there Boston led both Charleston and Memphis.

I also think Brooklyn has a slim chance at a playoff spot in this scenario:
* Brooklyn win (9-7 record)
* Atlantic City / Boston tie (8-7-1 records)
* Memphis loss (8-8 record)
* Charleston loss (9-7 record)

The #6 seed would come down to the strength of victory tie breaker between Brooklyn and Charleston. Charleston currently has a slight edge in this tie breaker but the week 17 results could swing it the other way.

Thanks for doing all of that fff!

The formula correctly picked our game with Durham as the Monday night game. Not only does it have huge playoff implications, but it's one of the biggest rivalries in the CFL and should draw huge ratings ;).

yes, you're right about that too, but really, if I also have to start thinking about [ic333246]tied games[/ic333246]... :roll:
