Monday night game features the #1 offense in the league, Tucson, scoring 32.5 points per game (CFL record is 32.0) vs. the #1 defense in the league, Durham, allowing 10.4 points per game (CFL record is 11.0). Good luck, Fonzie! If you end up scoring about 20 points then we'll both probably lose our chance at setting the record.

This'll be an interesting one, for sure. This is exactly the type of game that ESPN would be hyping like crazy five weeks ahead of time. Irresistible force, unmovable object, that kind of thing.

Speaking of unmovable objects, would you be willing to put on a workshop on defensive gameplanning? You're clearly doing something incredibly right, and I obviously have no idea what it is. I'd pay good money to attend!

I haven't found any magic formula or anything...in fact, my strategy for defensive gameplanning is using the recommend button and making small tweaks from there. I have come to believe that using extreme gameplans on either side of the ball doesn't work well over the long term. I think it's mostly about talent, cohesion, chemistry, reasonable playing time percentages, personnel used in various packages, and finally mixing up the gameplan occasionally so that I'm not too predictable.

Only twice this season have I made major changes to the recommended defensive gameplan. It worked both times, but I could have just as likely lost some crucial dice rolls and gotten burned. It worked out this time.

Example #1: week 8 vs. Charleston....their numbers were similar then, but now after week 15 they have run the ball 530 times (most in the league) and have only thrown 9 long passes all season. So I tweaked my defense to barely use nickel/dime and played a lot of 1-Deep coverage. The result was a 9-0 shutout allowing only 177 total yards.

Example #2: week 14 vs. Las Vegas...Vegas throws the deep ball more than anyone in the league (over 10 long passes per game). I played a lot of nickel/dime personnel and got lucky because TurfToe went a little extreme in his offensive gameplan. The result was a 34-11 win in which I allowed only 2 long completions in 24 long attempts.

For the most part it's just the recommend button and just very small changes from week to week. I think FOF recognizes when you use the same exact gameplan every week and penalizes you for it. (I could be wrong about that, but I have a hunch). Additionally, I'll scout the opponent to see if they have any predictable tendencies (example: Tampa Bay runs the ball A LOT on 3rd and long), and tweak the game plan slightly to try to gain an advantage in that area.

So, now someone will probably notice that my offense is unbalanced (279 short pass attempts vs. only 45 long pass attempts) and game plan against that. So maybe it's time to change up the offensive gameplan and see if [player]Michael Browning[/player] and [player]Chris Rodham[/player] can use that 4.36 and 4.39 speed to get past [player]Grady Barlow[/player] (who unfortunately for us has 4.31 speed). Should be a good game!

pretty much a playoff game for us, lose this one and we won't have much chance of making the postseason.

Figuring it was time for a CFL Update for me, I decided to post as well now. I'm starting to think I haven't watched the CFL for decades: The Long Beach Calibri on pace for home field advantage and a division title already secured!? Nice going, d.!

(There's not much to root for in Tampa Bay and Huntington Beach this season, it seems, other than the Torpedoes taking the #1 pick. And Sacramento is no more...)

By the way, nice to see you picked up the scenario writing here as well. I noticed that last season you gave me credits for formatting, but as I change my format almostly every week, you should take all credits for doing the hard work, FFF!
