The unexpected retirements of DE [player]Lincoln Gomez[/player] and CB [player]Norbert Durham[/player] will hurt our defense. We now have a huge hole at DE. Gomez had started every game for us over the past 4 seasons. 2nd year DEs [player]Bucky Diaz[/player] (3.24) and [player]Alfred Gillen[/player] (5.26) don't look like anything special. Durham has been our nickel back and got a lot of playing time. Now we'll see how 2nd year CB [player]Teddy Houston[/player] (4.23) does in that role. |

Alan Spearman retires as the all-time rushing leader in yards and TDs (and I think overall leader in TDs as well). He also holds the single game records for rushing yards (261), yards per carry (10.53), rushing TDs (5), and points scored (30). He clearly provided the balance Hartford's offense was lacking in the early years. And to my surprise, Floyd Lewis ranks 5th all time in tackles and assists. He spent 8 years in New Orleans, one season in Charleston, and his last 4 in Hartford. Despite 13 seasons on teams that have won 6 CFL bowls, Floyd retires without a ring. |

Willie Golalic and Alan Spearman were the two biggest names I saw on the list. Next year's crop of HOL nominees looks to be much stronger than this year's. BTW - nominations are open if you have haven't noticed.
