Atlantic Division

[b074b76e]Durham Bulldogs 2017: 10-6[/b074b76e]

The Bulldogs had 6 picks this year, their original picks minus a 6th rounder. I am on the record of having said I did not care for their first round pick, DT [player]William Keith[/player]. I look at this team and have absolutely no idea how they led the league in run defense in yards allowed per carry. To me, it appears they could really use some linebackers. [player]Rod Swift[/player] second round pick should be a decent backup tackle. [player]Ernie Sims[/player] could end up starting for the Bulldogs at defensive end. The transition from MSU Bulldog to Durham Bulldog should be pretty easy for Ernie, a run stopper but not much of a pass rusher. 4th round CB [player]Buddy Clemons[/player] is an idiot, but he should their nickel corner by the end of the year and be pretty decent at it.

[b074b76e]Grade: C- ~ Holes not filled, just a below average draft.[/b074b76e]

[b074b76e]Baltimore Bombers 2017: 8-8[/b074b76e]

The Bombers had 8 picks, their 7 and an extra 2nd that was late in the round. First rounder [player]Johnny Chiaverini[/player] will be a huge improvement over the inept RB [player]Timothy Connell[/player]. [player]Nathan McDonald[/player] did not go to the combine, but I feel he will be decent for a 2nd round pick at corner, to bad decent means starter and not nickel back for Baltimore. The Bombers picked up 2 safeties, [player]Rondell Wilkins[/player] and [player]Deon Burroughs[/player]. Rondell is only good against the run, while Deon is useless against the run and might be a better fit at corner. Then, their next 2 picks were linebackers. One of these two will start, while the other will get some playing time as his backup. [player]Melvin Thornton[/player] and [player]Hugh Voncannon[/player] are fighting for that starting spot but Melvin will win out. Melvin is decent all around, but I honestly think Hugh could be a run stuffing LB that you want on goal line situations.

[b074b76e]Grade: B- ~ They will start 4 of these 8 picks as rookies, but not because they want to. Good, but not very good outside of Chiaverini.[/b074b76e]

[b074b76e]Charleston Monitors 2017: 8-8[/b074b76e]

The Monitors had 6 picks, a 1st, a 3rd, two 4ths, and two 7ths. Not easy to make an impact with those selections. Some will say that [player]Herb Welborn[/player] is all that matters, but I don't think so. [player]Jessie Fletcher[/player] will see the field a good bit as the Monitors do not have many options at receiver. Jessie will have to learn how to hold on to the ball though.

[b074b76e]Grade: I ~ Incomplete, one pick in the first 80 selections and only 2 in the first 100. Herb should do well, but no superstar here.[/b074b76e]

[b074b76e]Tampa Bay Torpedoes 2017: 7-9[/b074b76e]

Tampa Bay had 7 picks in this draft, all theirs originally. They are still excited that DE [player]Dexter Humble[/player] fell to them at the 9th pick. [player]Brent Jenness[/player] is a quality linebacker taken in the second round and could make the move to middle linebacker in my eyes. He will start somewhere for the Torpedoes from week 1. Corner [player]Ian Fletcher[/player] did not go to the combine, but will also come out of camp penciled in as a starter. Ian should be adequate as the rest of Tampa Bay's starting secondary is pretty solid. DT [player]Bryant Grant[/player] and T [player]Gary Atkins[/player] could both start the season in the starting lineup. Again, not because of how good these two are, but the lack of better options for the Torpedoes.

[b074b76e]Grade: A- ~ I grade that you are supposed to get quality in the first 2 rounds, beyond that everything else is bonus. Their first 2 picks, were great picks with out reaching for anything.[/b074b76e]

McShay could get a Terry Tate-esque beatdown from Welborn.
