Vegas had only three selections (up from 2 in the 2021 Draft) in the 2022 draft. The Vegas draft philosophy seems to change between need and best available player depending on the current landscape of their roster. Or it is simply at the whim of the GM, Turf Toe.

RB - Geoff Delgado
Louisiana state
5'11" 211 lbs. [/b7a3b0d4]

Delgado was a productive back at LSU but rode a very productive junior college career onto campus. Despite having another year of eligibility left, the word is he made himself eligible so he was not considered an old rookie in 2023. Delgado scored very well on the Solecismic Test and had the second highest score for all RB's. The Rounders appear to have landed the next understudy for Vandersommen.

FS - Warren Hayek
San Diego State
6'0" 206 lbs.[/b7a3b0d4]

Hayek was not on the list of defensive backs to visit Vegas for an interview. This is why this pick is so intruiging. Despite Hayek's high Solecismic score and ball hawking abilities (holds San Diego State's career interception record) we would venture to guess his position specific drill score and high agility are the key to this selection. Van Valkenberg (1.21), Watkins (1.30), Welborn (2.23 - yes, the vaunted brother of the exhaulted Welborn), and Petzold (3.05) are all names right before and after Hayek's name in those categories and they weren't drafted in the 6th round. All that remains to be seen is if that potential can be tapped (only 26% developed which reads bustable).

[b7a3b0d4]7.12
OLB - Nathan Waldteufel
Alabama
6'2" 239 lbs.[/b7a3b0d4]

As usual, Vegas' 7th round selection leaves us scratching our heads a little. With some of the players we've discussed with the organization available as undrafted free agents we're left wondering what they saw in this kid. Waldteufel has excellent man-to-man skills that made him great at covering TE's and RB's at the college level and was a decent hitter capable of forcing his share of fumbles, but without combine scores it's hard to see what else Vegas liked here. Waldteufel's leadership skills are undeniable so maybe some of that charisma rubbed off on the Rounders front office in what has been reported as one of the best interviews they've had in a while. Either way, this kid has a lot to prove before he gets a spot on the Vegas 53-man roster, or any CFL roster for that matter.
