Game Report: Atlantic City 17, Boston 20 OT
Week 1

PLAYER OF THE GAME – QB Rico Firth
Firth made the coaches look like geniuses for naming him the starter. All he did was completed his first nine passes and finish the game 25/30 for 187 yards, 2 TD’s and a 114.8 QB rating. The offense is not designed for high passing yardage numbers but rather high accuracy and limited turnovers. In both regards, Firth was stellar.

MISSING IN ACTION – Pass Rush
Atlantic City has spent a lot of money and draft picks on improving the defensive line. While they did an excellent job in limiting the Boston running game, the pass rush was non-existent. No sacks and one QB hurry is not good enough in the CFL.

WHAT IF . . .
There are a bunch of what if’s in this game.

What if Harvey Engelke didn’t fumble on his first regular season carry, giving Boston the ball at the Phantom 17.

3-3-ACI27 (1Q: 11:31) Harvey Engelke ran outside the right tackle for 3 yards. Tackled by DT Rickey Whaley. The ball was fumbled and recovered by BOS CB A.J. Woods for 13 yards to the ACI17. Tackled by Myron Learned.

What if Howard Doyle didn’t have his punt blocked and recovered for a touchdown.

4-1-ACI15 (2Q: 02:45) Howard Doyle punted and it was blocked by Monty Jenkins. BOS Emmitt Aberdeen recovered the ball in the end zone for a TOUCHDOWN! Boston 13, Atlantic City 10

If YOU MISSED IT

• ACI rookie RB Harvey Engelke not only fumbled his first carry, but he then fumbled on his second carry. Son, you need to hold onto the ball!

• ACI outgained Boston 374-232 in a heartbreaking loss. If the game showed anything, it is that Boston has competition for the division crown in 2032.

• ACI led time of possession 38:51 to 25:54. The coaches stated goal is 35:00 so this is another excellent sign.

• Engelke finished the game with 15 carries for 50 yards.

BY THE NUMBERS

9 - Different ACI players with a reception

64 - Rushing yards allowed

187 - Rushing yards gained

46 – Rushing yards for Firth, who showed some running skills
