Game Report: Atlantic City 27, Tucson 20 Preseason Week 4 PLAYER OF THE GAME – WR Donald Kruger Kruger caught 4 passes for 28 yards but his biggest contribution was on special teams. Tucson erased a 20-10 ACI lead in the 4th quarter and seemed to have all the momentum. The Phantoms defense finally made a 4th quarter stopped and forced the Toros to punt with just under 3:00 minutes left. Kruger then returned the punt 95 yards to give Atlantic City the victory. MISSING IN ACTION – 4th Quarter Passing After Rico Firth played the first 3 quarters in a bid to save his job, Monty Lynch came on to play the last quarter. Lynch only threw three passes as the Phantoms attempted to keep the clock moving the ball. The problem: J.R. Brustkern was given the day off and you need more faith in the player you brought in to be the starting quarterback. WHAT IF . . . It is preseason so no what ifs yet. If YOU MISSED IT • So how did Firth do? He was 16/24 for 140 yards and an 81.9 QB rating. • RB Justin Hoover was given his first action of the year with Brustkern inactive and he made the most of it with 10 carries for 87 yards. • Since this is the preseason and a time to test new game plans, the defense played a bit more of an aggressive style with SLB Corey Fisher being the key component. Fisher was blitzing all over the field and finished with 7 tackles and 2 sacks. • C Roosevelt Shepard and TE Carlos Polhemus were healthy for the game but were inactive. Both should get some playing time in the last preseason game. BY THE NUMBERS 0 – Interceptions by the ACI quarterbacks in the preseason 0- Sacks allowed by ACI 10 – Penalties against ACI. The answer to last week’s question is no, ACI can’t keep the penalties down UP NEXT Death Valley |
