Week 3 Picks by Jimmy the Geek

Game of the Week

#4 Tucson at #2 Death Valley -2

A big early season battle between the Toros and the Copperheads headlines this week’s games. Not only is this a battle of the #2 and #4 ranked teams in the CFL, but it pits two of the highest scoring teams in the league. Tucson does their damage via the passing of QB Eugene Paulk and the receiving tandem of Jim Brost and Kennedy Welch. Death Valley has been led by reigning league MVP RB Junior Wolfe. The game will come down to which defense can slow down their opponent. Tucson has the #10 run defense in the league while Death Valley has the #26 pass defense. Take the Toros in a close one.

The Most to Prove Game of the Week

#31 Baltimore at #28 Boston -2

Baltimore is 2-0 but is ranked #31. What? When looking at the stats, the Barbarians have the #1 scoring team, are #1 in turnover margin and are #1 in passing yards per attempt. The problem is their opponents are a combined 0-4 and many experts feel they have been lucky the first two weeks. Boston is not ranked much higher and for some reason has only given the #1 rated RB in the league (Howie Knight) 12 carries in the first two games. On the positive side, the Boston roster is stronger than Baltimore and you have to think that they will feed the ball to Knight against the 20th ranked run defense. And throw in the fact that Baltimore just traded their star WR you can see why Boston is our choice.
