I've always used the recommend button to see what Rex thinks of each position group and many times we disagree. Many of these disagreements have to do with what I am trying to accomplish scheme-wise and I attributed Rex's decision to purely dumping the biggest numbers into the starting spot.

I was curious to see who Rex thought my backup QB would be behind Cody Reid who is coming off a great first year as a starter. However, I was a little surprised by Rex's suggestion and thought I'd throw it out there for discussion. Does Rex know something I do not? Is there more to Rex's decision making than picking big bars or high ratings?

Barring a boom after Pre-2 for rookie Lyle, this team is Reid's for the foreseeable future but this has challenged my perspective of Rex's decision-making process.

Just for context going into the draft, Denton was the clear #2 and Thornton has a roster spot specifically as a kick holder.

We are always looking for a QB in the draft but hesitate because they never turn out for us. Lyle was drafted this year based on some things we saw at the combine and we saw value at 2.30 when he was still available. However, he was not drafted to be a starter any time soon.

Rex's opinion does not have me reconsidering Lyle, just reinforcing my lack of trust/understanding in his recommendations.

What does Rex see that suggests Reid is not an option at 1, 2, or 3 with a 13-4-1 record last year?

I'm no FOF expert by any means but just throwing a thought out there.

Could REX be looking at the players ceiling and just going with the rookie since he was drafted in the 2nd? By that thinking though I would have expected Denton to be starting.

With that in mind what did REX say about your Guards. Start Read and Wyss or start Read and Ireland?

Interesting.

I could be wrong, but I think during preseason Rex does sometimes favor guys who have potential to be realized by gaining playing time. Maybe that's all that's going on here. Those 3 guys haven't reached their potential yet so Rex is playing them.

Read and Wyss are my starters, but Rex suggests the following:

I guess that could be it, but in the few seasons I've been playing this game I haven't noticed that level of complexity in Rex's suggestions. I guess I'm officially documenting it now. It's probably about time I get serious about learning these things, eh?

Or at least make more significant contributions than weeding out the weaker players by making them quit during the draft. :smt047

I guess if I was serious, I could search FOF Central where this is probably answered a few times. Who am I kidding, I'm not that ambitious. Screen shots are easier than searches.

I'm leaning on Taco's assessment; I've noticed in the pre, Rex always favors my underdeveloped guys as starters. Compare the suggestions he makes now with his recommendations for wk1.
