Can someone discuss the differences between changing a player's position that will supposedly result in minimal/little/no change versus playing that player out of position? Specifically, I am planning on playing a 4-3 defense and two of my LB's are WILB and SILB and they will fill the SLB and MLB slots respectively. The switch to SLB will result in 97% retention of skill and the MLB switch states no change. Is it better to play a WILB/SILB at SLB or make the change and take the 97% retension adjustment? Thanks in advance! |

That's a really, really tough one. If you search at FOFC, I think there may have been a discussion about it. I have a feeling that for very similar positions (RDT/LDT, SILB/SLB), it's probably just as well to play "out of position", but otherwise (especially if you plan to play them out of position for the whole season), it's better to make the switch. |

flere's right - this has been talked about quite a bit over at FOFC, but there has yet to be any clear answer to your question. My personal strategy is to play out of position if it is to fill a short-term need, and make the permanent position switch if I plan to use that player out of position for the long term. |

Currently, it is planned to be long term unless I find something in FA or something is too good to pass up in the draft. So if he becomes the long term answer, I should switch him before camp, right? |

If you don't, then switch during post-draft FA, but, as Raven Hawk said, [b4a2d461]definitely[/b4a2d461] switch before Training Camp. The reason to wait until this point is in case you do find someone, you won't have to switch twice, which [i4a2d461]can[/i4a2d461] have an overall degradation effect. Also, I believe the FOF SP rule applies that you can only switch a certain person twice per year. |
