Hosting STL trying to defend our bye position. We are without our top 2 TEs and playing in the snow so O could be rough and we will be sending the heat on D for once.
Two quick gains got us into the RZ but we were bottled up there and kicked a FG. We were stuffing their run game and forced a punt, taking over at our 3 Crabtree ha da big catch and run that was negated by penalty and they blocked our punt and got a quick TD for a 4 point lead. Another holding call led to a failed completioin on 3rd and long and ShoreL hits Kennedy deep on 3rd and medium to get across midfield and their penalties help us stop them as htey go for a long FG setting us up near the 50.
Crabtree bails us out of another 2nd and long but STL tackles int he RZ and we opt for another FG still down 1. We stay on top fo the field position battle retakign possession at midfield but enatlies derail our momentum and we pin them at their 2 with a little over 2 minutes left in the half. STl goes deep to Kennedy again on 3rd but this time we pick him and are set up at their 17 with over a minute left, 3 dink passes to get to the 5 including ot our FB as another TE wen out on the kickoff and we are sacked back and then miss the FG coming away with no points.
Down at the half, we need a GD touchdown and to keep up the great work on D.
STL finally gets going on the ground after getting less than 1 ypc in the 1st half and manages to flip the field on us. More penalties for our O and STL is on top of field position now. THey scrap together a couple 1sts to get a FG, our running game is going backwards now but a couple air completions keep us alive and we manage to flip the field. STl finally gets a catch and run from their TE but we pick them off on the next play for a TD and 3 point lead nearing the end of the 3rd.
A 3rd down penalty gives STL a new set of downs and they are battling again but a pick in our end hands it back to us. 3andO for us but STL has to start from their own end again. STL is very resilient and picks up a number of conversions and recovering form penalties getting inside our RZ with 6 minutes left. a 3rd personal foul on our D and it is 1st and Goal and Kennedy gets the TD on a 3rd down screen pass.
We are stringing together the short stuff and cross midfield at 3 minutes before hitting Sheldon deep to set us up at their 22 down 4. Another intermediate completion to Spradling and we are inside the 5, (GD I hope we just run it 4 times), but no we go to the air and score the TD quickly with STL now taking over just outside of 2 minute down 3. Hilliard grabs a 52 yarder over our back end getting STL to our 12 with plenty of time, they go conservative running thrice (!!!) and tie things up and we are going to OT.
TE Davison gets free for STL on a 2nd and long putting them in long FG range, and they find Wr Witt on 3rd and 11 but we shut them down inside the 5 and they leave us wth 4 minutes down 3 in OT. But we finally throw our weekly pick and that is ballgame.
Man, STL you shut down our O in a big way- we only had 1 TD drive all day and blew plenty of good chances with 3 picks in our favor during regulation. Great tackling anda solid rush had us in fits. We have shown some serious struggles recently. Great game all around, with a lot of drama. We racked up 132 penalty yards on 16 flags while STL had 11 themselves. STL had a few big plays in the air but really the Ds owned all phases of this game.
We have to win against Denver to get our bye but at least we control our own destiny.
