This game was a lot closer than the score suggests. The Copperheads held the lead 14-13 going into the 4th quarter and the defenses were keeping each team in check. However, The Pride were able to break out in the 4th quarter with 18 unanswered points to grab their second CFL title. It's only been 24 seasons . . . or in real-world time, roughly 6 years. Lol.

When we queued up the game plan for this one, our goal was to keep TE Alvin Stone in check. Had just noticed that he seemed to be the go-to guy in key situations. Figured if we could keep him out of the end zone, we would have a good chance of winning. It's good to see the plan worked. We held him to 5 rec / 12 targets for 50 yards and kept him out of the end zone.

On the offensive side of the ball, we wanted to stretch the field a little more. Ended up with 4 completions of 20 or more yards to 4 different receivers and was 4/6 at long range. Gilmore looked good today, even though there was some good pressure brought on by the Copperhead defense.

But once again, this one was mostly about field position. It's hard to beat Brantley Gilmore when you give him a short field. The Pride had and average starting position of their own 41 yard line, while The Copperheads were starting at their own 22 on average.

GG, Jander, and congrats on a great season. You'll be back to this Championship, I believe, before we will (maybe another 20+ seasons for us? lol).

This was likely our last opportunity to get Gilmore a ring, so we're happy we were able to accomplish that. Now he can retire in peace . . . or will he? Another season could get him to the league record for passing yards . . .

And TurfToe - sorry about the low end value you'll be getting for WR Geoff Warren, who we traded our 2056 1st rounder for. Turns out he was a key piece to putting our championship run together. But as I'm sure you know, I'm not really sorry. ;)

I look forward to seeing what 2056 brings! (other than plummeting player ratings)

Great game Raven Hawk; you have yourself one heck of a team and gameplan. You are the Champ and you more than earned it

Kinda a tale of both halves-

First Quarter both teams come out strong and score right off the bat; are we looking at a shoot out?
What seems like a barn burner in the making quickly changes course and becomes a battle for field position.
Death Valley takes a 14-6 lead into the locker room at half time.

Up to this point both teams have played very similarly with Shreveport having a slight yardage advantage but with Death Valley converting more drives into touchdowns.

This put me in an odd position... I've been down at half in both previous playoff games; I only had a comeback speech ready for halftime. It was gonna be an amazing speech believe me. It had it all: choreography, a string section, pyrotechnics- the works. It never occurred to me to have a speech ready for a lead. I tried to wing it; things went poorly. By the end of my meandering rant the team seemed confused, despondent even. Maybe I shouldn't have lingered for so long about our fleeting mortality and wasted lives, who knows? Either way my speech seemed to set off an existential crisis in many of my players; we came out a very different team in the second half.

Our drive off to start the second half sputtered out without seeing the 50; it would prove to be a sign of things to come. We would suffer two injuries at safety in quick succession harming our potent D. Drive after drive went 3 or 4 and out while Shreveport cruised up and down the field. RB Sargent demoralized my team with constant runs and catches and the seemingly immortal Brantly Gilmore shook off his years dominated at QB.
By the time Shreveport went up 7 after a 2 point conversion the writing was on the wall. A costly interception would render the comeback dead and Shreveport would add to their total twice.

The future looks Sunny in Death Valley... And by that I mean the weather; it's actually kinda a problem here- we had to install a retractable roof. On the football side, hopefully my vets on defense can give me one more run. My Assistant coach is my daughter who starts Kindergarden next week; due to her sudden resignation the cat has been promoted to interm assistant Coach while we seach for a suitable replacement.

Congratulations Raven Hawk on a well earned championship; I look forward to our next meeting.

Jander
Death Valley

Congrats to both of you guys for having such a great season. This is one of my favorite leagues to play in after finishing my first season here. I'm coming for you Omaha.

Class Acts, congrats to both on great seasons!

Love the likely storybook ending to Gilmore's career!

Congrats RH, glad to see you bring one home.

I figured you guys would be in the mix this season, but I wasn't planning on 1.32.

That's part of the risk of trading though; it doesn't always work out for everyone.

You know I'll be holding that over your head in a future deal, so it'll be fine.
