Heading into the draft the Tulsa Talons held the # 4 pick. Soon after the draft started the Talons did some wheeling and dealing to end up with 2 first round picks, #s 1.11 & 1.18. The team went 4-12 for a reason, a lack of talent, so with 2 picks to work with the Talons tried to upgrade 2 starting positions with these picks. With the first pick the Talon's really wanted to get young [b7e66543]QB Donnie Lowe[/b7e66543]another target to throw to. Lowe had a rough rookie season so the coaching staff is trying to surround him with as much talent as possible. With the # 11 pick in the first round the Tulsa Talons selected [b7e66543]WR Donald Booker[/b7e66543]. Not only does Booker provide another target for Lowe, but he is the big play reciever the Talons have been missing, and he is also a GREAT return man. Booker will go into training camp competing with [b7e66543]George Thornberry [/b7e66543] and another first round pick [b7e66543]Daniel Campbell[/b7e66543] for the starting flanker spot.

With the 18th pick in the first round, the Talons wanted to upgrade probably the weakest position on the team last season and that is the NT. Last year [b7e66543]DT Vince George[/b7e66543] started 13 games, but had only 15 tackles. Horrible numbers for a starting DE. Sitting with the 18th pick the Talons were praying their man would fall to them and he did, the Talons selected [b7e66543]NT Jessie Sherman[/b7e66543]. Sherman is more of a pure NT than George is, and that will help him fit into the Talon's 3-4 style defense. Sherman is a 6-2 291 pound NT from Nebraska. With all the trading the Talons now dont draft until the # 4 pick in the 4th round.

In other Talon news the Talons were able to sign a great backup RB incase Fulton does not completely recover from his injury. It will also allow the team to run the ball more and keep Fulton fresh late in the game. The Talons signed [b7e66543]Monty Boyd[/b7e66543]. Boyd is a former first round pick, picked in Baltimore. Boyd rushed for over 1,100 yards in his rookie season.
