As 3rd year San Antonio coach Tramel came out of the war room, we were able to get his thoughts on the 2017 San Antonio Stingers draft class.

[bf6949ba][player]Pete Stevens[/player][/bf6949ba]
[bf6949ba]Position[/bf6949ba]: WR
[bf6949ba]Round[/bf6949ba]: 1
[bf6949ba]Pre-Camp Rating[/bf6949ba]: 40/59
[bf6949ba]Coach's Insight[/bf6949ba]: The decision to draft Pete without seeing him perform at the combine was a difficult one. But after reviewing him skills on film we couldn't pass up the opportunity to add his complimentary skills to our other game-breaker, Ricardo Buzzanca.

[bf6949ba][player]Levon Thames[/player][/bf6949ba]
[bf6949ba]Position[/bf6949ba]: G
[bf6949ba]Round[/bf6949ba]: 2
[bf6949ba]Pre-Camp Rating[/bf6949ba]: 16/60
[bf6949ba]Coach's Insight[/bf6949ba]: Let's face it. Bob Wells is coming off a major injury and both our starting guards are getting up there in age. Levon will need some molding, but he appears to have the skills and could start for us in the future.

[bf6949ba][player]Rickey Welbourn[/player][/bf6949ba]
[bf6949ba]Position[/bf6949ba]: K
[bf6949ba]Round[/bf6949ba]: 3
[bf6949ba]Pre-Camp Rating[/bf6949ba]: 38/64
[bf6949ba]Coach's Insight[/bf6949ba]: We wanted to create some competition across the board and this pick may have opened some eyes across the board byt taking a kicker this ealry. Rickey just had what we were looking for in a kicker. His kickoff capabilities should help our defensive field position and his accuracy in field goals should equate to points on the scoreboard. We just loved his combine and workouts and didn't want to miss the opportunity to bring him into camp.

[bf6949ba][player]Pete Sawchuk[/player][/bf6949ba]
[bf6949ba]Position[/bf6949ba]: OLB
[bf6949ba]Round[/bf6949ba]: 3
[bf6949ba]Pre-Camp Rating[/bf6949ba]: 26/57
[bf6949ba]Coach's Insight[/bf6949ba]: We needed a SLB to shutdown the run and be able to play some in the pass coverage schemes. Pete is a well rounded OLB and he can really fill in at any LB positions. We'll need to work with his zone recognition a bit.

[bf6949ba][player]Albert Hicks[/player][/bf6949ba]
[bf6949ba]Position[/bf6949ba]: OLB
[bf6949ba]Round[/bf6949ba]: 3
[bf6949ba]Pre-Camp Rating[/bf6949ba]: 18/58
[bf6949ba]Coach's Insight[/bf6949ba]: Albert is more of a raw talent, but we see some hidden potential here. He does excel in the special teams and he'll get a real feel for where he will wind up once we break for camp.

[bf6949ba][player]R.J. Wyrick[/player][/bf6949ba]
[bf6949ba]Position[/bf6949ba]: SS
[bf6949ba]Round[/bf6949ba]: 4
[bf6949ba]Pre-Camp Rating[/bf6949ba]: 23/61
[bf6949ba]Coach's Insight[/bf6949ba]: We were real pleased to see R.J still on the board so late. R.J. will have a chance to compete for a starting spot along with some vets and Andrew Fuller who we drafted a few slots later in the draft. At worst, we may have found a pretty good nickel or dime back here.

[bf6949ba][player]Cornelius Davidson[/player][/bf6949ba]
[bf6949ba]Position[/bf6949ba]: P
[bf6949ba]Round[/bf6949ba]: 5
[bf6949ba]Pre-Camp Rating[/bf6949ba]: 60/73
[bf6949ba]Coach's Insight[/bf6949ba]: We needed a punter to come in and help our defense out a bit. Cornelius can do just that and he has a nack for cornering opposing teams back inside the 20. Hopefully he can transcend that skill to the next level.

[bf6949ba][player]Andrew Fuller[/player][/bf6949ba]
[bf6949ba]Position[/bf6949ba]: SS
[bf6949ba]Round[/bf6949ba]: 5
[bf6949ba]Pre-Camp Rating[/bf6949ba]: 27/55
[bf6949ba]Coach's Insight[/bf6949ba]: We really had a tough time making a decision in the early 5th round and we felt like we wanted to bring both of these guys in and take a look at them.

[bf6949ba][player]Carlos James[/player][/bf6949ba]
[bf6949ba]Position[/bf6949ba]: TE
[bf6949ba]Round[/bf6949ba]: 6
[bf6949ba]Pre-Camp Rating[/bf6949ba]: 24/62
[bf6949ba]Coach's Insight[/bf6949ba]: While Carlos didn't dazzle us with a top notch combine workout, he did prove to us that he can play football. He has a wide range of skills that really put him in a good spot to excel at his position. He's well rounded and he will be a nice addition to the team and should see some time along Hoss Horowitz in the upcoming year.

[bf6949ba][player]Les Lang[/player][/bf6949ba]
[bf6949ba]Position[/bf6949ba]: FB
[bf6949ba]Round[/bf6949ba]: 6
[bf6949ba]Pre-Camp Rating[/bf6949ba]: 30/53
[bf6949ba]Coach's Insight[/bf6949ba]: Les is a special team standout and a can handle most pass blocking schemes. He should fit in nicely as a lead blocker for last year's all-pro RB [player]Roy Jones[/player]. He'll need to prove himself in camp.

Overall we were able to add some talent to all three phases of our football team. We added some quality early on offense and some real depth on the defensive side in the middle rounds. Overall our special teams should see a productivity boost this year as everyone we brought in looks to be a contributor in that phase.

Great write up, and nice draft. If I had done as well I would probably do the same... heh

Hope they all hold up through camp for ya.

Nice writeup. It will definitely be interesting to keep an eye on these numbers and study who goes up and who goes down over the next few years.
